Big fan of Dylbags, always have been, but so far he hasn’t shown he’s worth this much money. Haven’t really paid much attention to you blokes but I hope you have a 7 who can run the show while Dylbags plays sidekick otherwise you likely won’t have a good time. Maybe Ponga just does that from the #1 I suppose. Always had a soft spot for you merkins for some reason, so I do hope he goes well for you.

They said they’d be “open” to him playing 7 but to me that’s more letting him know we’d be open to it if that’s what he wanted to come, rather than the plan is definitely to play him at 7.

There’s 3 options:

1. Brown at 7 with Sharpe at 6.

2. Brown at 6 with some likes of Cogger/Gamble/new halves signing at 7 with Sharpe back in the backline.

3. Brown at 6 with Sharpe at 7 (least likely but also the one I think the club are aiming for with all of the talk about Fletcher’s talk and footy IQ)
I think 2 is least likely. I just can’t see it happening at all to be honest unless Sharpe REALLY stinks it up at 6 from now which isn’t impossible but unlikely. I also don’t feel concerned about AOB making silly team selection decisions. He generally nails it most of the time.

Brown won't be our main man. 2nd or 3rd fiddle depending on how Sharpe develops. We'll look after him! I'm sure his ACL will go round 1 next year, but outside that i'm sure he'll go good.

Great news for the club, the players, the fans and sponsors- about time the Knights looked like wanting a Premiership.

The media ( mostly FOX) are a bunch of wankers. Every year Ponga's contract goes up, who really knows what Brown's contract is.......pure speculation from the media.

I trust AOB to get Brown to where we need him, although he's had a few bumps in the road, he can coach, and I'm excited to see what he can do with some quality steering the team. Ponga is a freak, and Brown could just be the man to take him to the next level.

Honestly he’ll probably go good having Best outside him as opposed to a donkey like Morgan Harper last year. He’s been really limited the last couple of seasons by not having anybody dangerous outside him so it’s been easy for defences to just number up on him.

This has been the issue for Ponga - he gets rushed up on in defence because oppositions know we don’t have any other individual threats in our spine. With Sharpe and then Brown coming in, it will help him out significantly as 3 of them will need to be defended.

2.7, Ponga is on around 1.4m

I don't get why people are getting so mindblown about this. There's going to be a lot of young halves getting this sort of money soon. The length of the deal is the headline, not the amount.

It's not uncommon for a team to tie up a lot of their cap on 2 or 3 key spine players. Why is everyone so surprised when we do it?
Cos DB isn’t worth 1.3, end of.

Honestly when you say something like that it does give me hope that we could see some magic in the future. If he's on the left side of our field, the blokes he might have moving around him at any given moment would be:

Kalyn Ponga
Dylan Lucas
Bradman Best
Fletcher Sharpe

And the frieght train Marzhew out wider. That is a lot of fire power for him to play with. I can certainly see the vision, anyway.

Honestly a prime Joey Johns probably would’ve struggled with what Dylbags had to work with last year. Still would’ve had the kicking game though.

He gets so much shit for his management of the halves but he’s never had anyone better than old washed Mitchell Pearce. Besides that he’s gotten about what can be expected out of players like Mann, Gamble, Cogger, and Clifford was playing career best footy to that point until whatever off field stuff derailed that. Hell even Anthony Milford played pretty okay for us! Some may dispute that last one I guess but I don’t think we were losing because of him.

And now he’s being handed someone with honest to god elite attributes on the verge of his prime. Exactly what he’s clearly wanted in a half too, big strong ball runner who defends hard, plays really square, etc.

I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t play career best footy for us. Exactly how good that footy is, well we’ll see. But the potential is exciting.

Fletcher looks like he wants his hands on the ball all the time and is eager to jump in to get the ball. Might work out that Fletcher plays more first receiver and Brown plays 6. Wonder if we gonna try Fletcher on the right at anytime this season?

Gus made a good point that the Storm play with one hooker and 3 fullbacks in their spine. Cleary mentioned that in the big games it's better the halves run the ball more anyway.

We needed to sign a star anyway to keep Ponga happy. Can't think of anyone else anyway. If we let the money sit, we probably lose Ponga in a couple of years anyway. Let's go for broke!

I was just watching a clip from NRL 360 - they were saying that Brown does have a rachet clause in his contract - but that it can only go up to 1.4m a year and caps out there. If true and if the cap continues to increase as new teams come into the comp - that could be some very handy business. All things considered with the player market forecast for the next 5+ years... I can see why the club felt like a deal like this could be risked. The potential upside is massive.
