Rumoured Targets 3

Blayke is almost unbackable odds to play for the Blues next year if he maintains his current form so we'd be looking at $700K a season to even get a meeting. I don't think the space would be there.

The club needs to develop Arthur into our answer to Blayke. Really the only option in that position with likely well over $3 million in Ponga, Brown and Sharpe.

Even with a Matt Arthur or someone like Cory Paix playing 9 next year we will be paying about the same as the storm on the spine.

Unfortunately a huge gulf in talent between the two.

Looks like Jayden Burrell is off contract, a lot of people saying he’s too good for reserve grade. If Blayke Brailey stays he’s not getting a look in at the Sharks. Might be worth speaking to.

Is our cap at the point where we couldn't afford someone like Brailey? A week ago we were talking about having the opposite problem...

I know there is contract bumps next year to a few players

but I’ve made a rough list below of players we are loosing, approx contract compared to who we are gaining

for the sake of easy maths, I’ve rounded no name players up to 100k

lost or unsigned

Jayden Brailey (Canberra Raiders),
650k
Paul Bryan(Manly Sea Eagles),
100k
Riley Jones (Cronulla Sharks),
100k
Linnane (New Zealand Warriors),
100k
Kai Pearce-Paul (Wests Tigers),
600k
Will Pryce (Hull FC),
400k?
Sebastian Su'a (The Dolphins),
100k
Leo Thompson(Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs)
350k
Adam Elliott
600k
Jackson Hastings
700k
Jack Heatherington
500k?

so in theory we are getting rid of about 4-4.5mil

and we’ve signed Brown on 1.3 and a handful of rookies on assuming peanuts…..and maybe upgrade players like Sharpe and Hunt

surely we have cap space to talk to Blayke Brailey

Id imagine theyre saying we can't afford to spend that much on our spine as 2.7M is ponga/brown and Sharpe's value will only be going up.

But we resigned him until 2028 at the start of the year, so id imagine its not as expensive as people think after just 12 games, mostly on the wing. If the club is smart, by the end of that contract its going to look extremely cheap if he continues his trajectory.

At the end of the day the club can spend $4-5m on the spine and try to find value elsewhere. But the money will definitely be there for 2027 currently.

Hard to figure out what we've done with it all, isn't it?

Why not? Storms spine is about 3.5-4mil

I reckon we’ve got a heap of cash to be honest. Yes I’ve said that previously and we didn’t because we ridiculously overpaid a heap of players, but the guys we’ve signed or re-signed don’t go close to who we’ve lost.

I'm of the opinion we can, and probably should. If that's where the value is at, im all for it. Club went after TDS, so obviously sees a need at hooker.

Was backing it up by saying Sharpe wont be getting paid anywhere near marquee money until 2029 unless the club does an early upgrade/extension.

No way we had to sign him on ridiculous money after 12 games as a winger. If he averages over 600k/year for the duration of this contract id be very surprised.

Out of Interest, this is what we have signed for 2027 currently (age at start of 27 season);

1. Ponga (28)
2. Young (25)
3.
4. Best (25)
5. Hunt (21)
6. Brown (26)
7. Sharpe (22)
8. Saifiti (30)
9.
10.
11. Lucas (26)
12. McEwen (21)
13.

14. Crossland (26)
15. Croker (27)
16. ESL (22)
17.

18. Arthur (22)
19. Schiller (25)
20. Crouch (24)
21. Hola (27)
22. Hopwood (20)
23. Sullivan (23)
24.
25.
26.
27.
28.
29.
30.

So 12 spots to fill. Id hope very few of those guys would be comfortably over 500k;

Ponga
Brown
Best
Saifiti

All in all, should still be plenty to spend for 2027. Shaping up to be a very young squad too.
