Letting them go a year early was probably both selfish and selfless on the clubs behalf. Selfish because we didnt want to have them here knowing they wouldnt be in 2026 and selfless because, yes without ready-made replacements we have now got some siginifcant gaps.

But by the same token, if we didn't let Gutho go, do we get Iongi? He may be our future #1 for the next 10 years.

And it doesn't need to be a senior player that stands up. Once they run onto the field, anyone wearing 1-17 can be a leader. It's about attitude, effort and doing the 1%'rs.
We signed Iongi and Williams whilst Gutho and RCG were still here for 2025.

…. It was a joke. Molo is even less of a leader than what we have. Are castoffs even the type of leadership we after?
I wouldn't expect to get a leader in the swap given it was only one season, but Molo is likely better than any middle on our books now.

We now have ZERO NRL standard starting Front Rowers at the club.

There's no way Gutho should've been allowed to leave without being replaced.

Iongi signed with us before Gutho was released?

Have no issue with them being moved on, but they should've been replaced.

We let them go a year early...we could've asked for a player swap as compensation.

Agree that the senior players have to stand up
It was almost Bradesque type negotiations, the only difference he would have kept on his cheer squad, which we could probably use at the moment

Yep , relying on a 1 one game rookie, fairly idiotic notion

Just because you've played 175 Plus NRL games doesn't automatically make you leader.

BUT, if players aren't Leaders or influencing results after 175 NRL games, you might as well just play a rookie or minimum wage journey man.
You could just do a job and still not influencing games of you know what i mean

I loved Gutho and RCG for the passion they showed, but to be honest, we didn't win anything with them "leading" the team so at the end of the day, I reckon their time was up and it was time to move on from them both.

Yes, we look leaderless at the moment but in times of need, true leaders stand up and I am keen to see who does this for us over the next few weeks.
Agreed, no one in the entire squad is irreplaceable bar Moses IMO.

And from what i have seen from Gutho and Reg so far this season in the long run they won't be a loss at all.

The Chamas/Weidler podcast commented on the rebuild undertaken by the Dogs after a first year coach in Ciraldo was appointed. Their comment was that Gould was there to make decisions and get commitments from player managers and players .Made the statement that our recruitment has been close to abysmal and the current set up doesn’t inspire confidence in getting a difficult job done under the current recruitment team.

They suggested that is a major stumbling block that Ryles is facing, so Rigers, MON and even Sarantinos need to completely turn their performance on its head or make way. Not sure who there is to take charge available, but would first look at the recruitment guy at the Raiders, he finds diamonds in the rough even in SuperLeague, how welcome would that be. Rogers was basically let go by the Rabbitohs and then hired by an ex Tigers workmate, and that possibly is not the most comforting resume.

I don't think everyone who is comparing Ciraldo to us understands that Gould was already there prior to Ciraldo coming onboard... Barrett was originally the head coach of choice for the rebuild.

So the club had a few years rebuild already before Ciraldo took the reins

It doesn't matter whether there is or not. There is no reason why we can't just sign Gould, Matt Cameron and the best recruitment scout in the NRL.

We the fans demand it so Beach and the board better make it happen FFS. How hard can it be?
You do understand that the post was directed at poor performance and what’s needed, you are entitled to think our R&R team has done a decent job. My thoughts probably borne out by results, is that they should have done better.

There is no other Gus, but the reconstruction required would be easier if there was a similar alpha type in charge. No point in backing down from that, that’s why people are getting paid big bucks to do a good job, maybe you fit in that sphere. If you don’t believe we need to be considerably better , that’s your opinion, I’m getting too old to watch inferior performances from the front office.

Needs to do better is a minimum, and that’s not sufficient in the fast moving NRL space.

Getting beat by Tigers comprehensively indicates we aren’t going well, and haven’t recruited well for years.
