NRL Market Watch: Newcastle Knights release Will Pryce, frees up salary cap space for Dylan Brown
The Knights have granted an immediate release to one of their playmakers, a move which could free salary cap space for the club to make an early move for Dylan Brown. MARKET WATCH

.Newcastle have given Englishman Will Pryce an immediate release in a move that could free salary cap space for the Knights to make a move later in the year for Dylan Brown.
The Knights confirmed Pryce had been granted a release on compassionate grounds, allowing him to return to England for personal and professional reasons.
“Pryce has secured a multi-year contract in the Super League and the Knights did not want to stand in the way of this opportunity to return home to his family,” the Knights said.
Newcastle have already announced that Parramatta half Brown will join them next year, although there has been speculation the club could launch a bid at some point this season to get their hands on him ahead of schedule.
Eels coach Jason Ryles insisted that was not a consideration for Parramatta after his side was beaten by Manly on Sunday afternoon.

However, should the Eels and Ryles stance now change, Newcastle have some additional financial muscle to use for a move for Brown.
It is understood Pryce was on a deal worth more than $400,000 this season.

Best he goes now. Nothing for us to gain by having a bloke who is clearly not dialled in with what the coach wants the team doing.
He's out of form, injured or disinterested. Could be all 3. Could also be toxic to the rest of the playing group..it's simply untenable. Go just go

Or when Moses comes back, he might find his mojo.

Play him at lock or 14 now we have Walker.

Lets get off the bottom of the ladder and finish the season with a wet sail.

Our season is dusted.

So, the petty side of me wants Brown to stay at Parramatta, and keep stinking it up, to really cram it down Newcastle's throats that they paid $13 million for a bloke who is not worthy of even half of that.

See I'd rather 💯 committed players and/or giving a young guy who wants to be here 1st grade experience.
Also believe Walker can easily step into that role and do a much better role regardless

Brown is still defending pretty well, which is a definite asset. I'm am concerned, though, about his overall effect on this team full of rookies in terms of morale. He's also providing no leadership at all.
It is a worry.

He was a poor man's Drown, which is what we need. The Dragons defended very well in that game, and Wishart made plenty of runs, plenty of PCM, and tackled at 88%. Was Munster any better?
Colour me greedy but I just think we can do a little better than a poor man’s Brown.
And I think Cunster has proven track record to show one game as a rarity compared to Wishart’s ability to prove one game isn’t his regular level

Reduce expectations and reduce pressure. He is obviously finding the whole shebang difficult. I don't buy that he is tanking or sulking.

Keep him in the team and move the limelight away from him.

Not true. The last 3 games it has improved considerably compared to times last year and in '23 (and the Round 1 joke this year).

There has been a clear change in how we 'wrestle' and we are now starting to actually focus on getting the tackled player on their backs.

Defensive structure still needs some work but I reckon there are improvements which are masked somewhat by individual players missing simple tackles (Williams and Hopgood v Dogs).

Agree with this, I've notived a difference in technique and what we are trying to do in the tackle, problem is we are just not very good at it right now

Ryles said he was going to strip everything right back and start again, so this change is going to take some time to evolve.

The other thing is that it is not really 100% ingrained in them yet as sometimes they get off very quickly ala BA style

I feel confident that Ryles is the right man to move us in the right direction moving forward - am I crazy?

We are 0 and 4 to start the season, and not showing a whole lot - but the things Ryles, and his coaching team, are doing, is giving me hope that if we clear up our roster, we will come good.

And the young kids will be better for the experience we are giving them in 2025.

Defence is clearly the priority atm.

Still too many soft tries and bad decision making. But a few people reckon have pointed out to me yesterday they have seen little improvements.

Our attack is Z-Grade but i suppose without your general not much you can do. But limit the damage.

Attended the last 3 games our players are still too stagnate off the ball

Will Moses solve this when he comes back if his support players ain't moving in motion then will he just crabbing sideways waiting for someone to run hard and straight with him.

Dylan Walker may be a point of difference with our attack inside the 20m which is incredible to think because he was one of the last person i thought would end up at our club let alone the thought of him being a potential saviour 2 weeks ago.
