28 would have pretty much been the average retirement age for a forward back then. Obviously there were exceptions but Stumpy did have an 9 year FG career.

Not really, was a bit of a shock if anyone retired that age, even back in the 80s

Stumpy was riddled with knee injuries the two seasons prior at the roosters , so understandable he couldnt go on . Was a risk picking him, but Jack Gibson was the coach, and we had a fairly good pack as it is., and the way Jack brought the backline together was there for all to see..

bit of a surprise with JDB being 34 and all, but I guess we have to trust Ryles and its pretty short deal so hopefully he doesn't block any pathways

I’m off social media atm so it’s nice to read this news.

My opinion (FWIW) is this is actually a ripper signing. I’m more excited about this than I was Walker.

At 34, he’s end of his career, fine. But he also didn’t play a single day of collision sport for 3 years (when he was a young Origin player) for a crime accusation that it was later proved the Police officers LIED to finger him.

JDB in my opinion has the one of the best, if not THE best tackling styles of the modern game. The cuts people in half every week and never misses.

I reckon Ryles has picked up a modern day prop for essentially minimum wage with all the options in club’s favour.

Plus, he’s a Dragons faithful, I’d hardly see him leave at the end of his career for low money to play for Ryles if he doesn’t have plenty to prove…

Huge huge fan of this signing. At those dollars too!!! Trust me, he will be one of our best week in, week out.

Is this the same Stevens who joined a pack who already had Ray Price, Ron Hildich and signed Leader Steve Edge

And was only 28yo in 1981?
28 in 1981 was the equivalent of 35 today. Go and have a look at some old photos. Bob O’Reilly was 32 back then and he looked older than I do now, and I’m nearly fifty!

How's Benji going with his redemption of any players irrespective of age ? In fact has any player improved under Benji ?
Bula, Skelton, Doueihi, Starford Toa, Pole, Terrell May, Samuela Fainu, Sione Fainu all improved massively last two years.

Benji has developed Galvin, Latu Fainu, Heath Mason, the TDS that everyone here is salivating about through from juniors.

Laulii brothers, Jared Haywood and Heamasi Makasini coming through.

So year I think Benji has the runs on the board.

Results not showing yet but Benji and the club are positioned very nicely for the next few years.
