He had a great debut, but as you imply, it was on the wing, being marked by a bloke in the sin bin. Most wingers would've scored both those tries. I think a lot of these merkins are overstating the quality of his performance because of the timing of those tries. They got us back into the game.
We have over six months before anyone else can make offers. Assuming other clubs all play by the rules. @JokerEel certainly thinks they do.
No I said he was average at the Storm. I use the dictionary definition of average, not the rugby league definition.
Plenty of merkins would be. He is free to negotiate in November. What would it take to give up those options?
I think it really was a choice of almost last man standing...he can play but his defense is a bit of a worry.

The 2 wingers in Flegg were brought in this season and are far more promising than Tago and Alemeddine. The Ball wingers are younger and look even better, Rokasuka, Sorovi and Bloomfield are all big, strong and quick and also in Waratahs sights. Keeping them and promoting them is key, again coaching and extending will make the difference.
We may not keep either….
Once Ball is finished we need to see a couple of the guns promoted.
