The League released figures that showed the game earned $350.5 million and spent $353.1 million in 2016 ..

http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/opi...e/news-story/cd5379426af1764445f1e2a16d042140

FMD they give $8M to 16 clubs = $128M

WTF do they do with the other $222M ?

Ignoring one-off items:

Revenue 350m

Expenditure:
Game, Event and Sponsorship 72m
Football Costs (refs, officials, judiciary, bunker, etc) $19m
Community and Player Welfare $16m
Integrity and Salary Cap 3.2m
Administration 22m

Total Expenditure about 122m

Available for Distribution about 217m

Amount distributed to clubs 160m
Dist to state bodies 30m
Distributed to development bodies 30m.

leaving a surplus of about 5m

If you include one-off items it switches to a deficit of 2-3m.

Peats was a shining light around the joint after the Keating era which I think gave many people, myself included, some early tolerance of this shortcomings. IMHO, his defence has always been outstanding however he has never consistently provided any spark from DH in attack.

People don't want him here because he's injury prone. Should I remind everyone how many games Corey has missed 2016/17?

Prior to 2016 Norman missed f**k all games. Last year's unavailability was due to suspension not injury. This is the first significant injury he's had.

Well if they drop back to one ref they've pretty much balanced the books.

Not just that. The attack thing is a legit issue but not to every team. Titans already have 4 playmakers (Hayne, Taylor, Elgey, Roberts). In SOO Peats was phenomenal but the job he did was the job he is already excellent at. NRL games require a different contribution from your hooker depending on how the rest of your spine is made up. I think for us, we need someone to split the line occasionally to bring Guth or French or Semi into the game.

Well I thought he was a gun but I didn't want him back here for overs. If he wasn't injury prone I'd say he might be worth $600k-$700k or thereabouts. It's hard to put a price on a bloke who will probably be unavailable for a quarter of your games.

Plus I rate Kritchard.

I rate Kritchard too, and believe that he's easily the best option that we have at the club ( and that includes a fit IDG). That said, Peats is a class above. Good defender, provides good service, and I think he runs more than enough. Worth $700k in my book, but as much as injury is a concern, you also have the 3-6 games he'll miss over origin now each year. Which is yet another reason why the Foz signing filled me with joy back in the day - a top line half, who would never play origin and miss a bunch of games. What do they say about best laid plans?

I didn't say he missed them in 16 due to injury. Everyone is missing the point. Injury can pretty much strike any player at any given time.

But you said Peats was injury prone and then brought up Norman. Contextually it read that you were saying Norman was injured many times in 2016 and 2017

I suspect that the 'rubbery' figures are buried in the 'event, game, and sponsorship' line item. This item used to be quite a bit lower (e.g. 30-40m), then increased in 2015 for reasons argued at the time to be temporary (e.g. negotiating the new TV deals....otherwise known as buying bottles of Grange for the execs of the bidders)., but has never reverted to old levels. I suspect there's quite a few first class airfares buried in there.

Peats is a far better attacking hooker than Pritchard. He's a lot smarter with his runs, his service is streets ahead and he's excellent and getting his forwards over the ad line.

I don't disagree. Of course Peats is a way better hooker at this stage, but he would also be on 500 grand more. You make a good point though, there is more to attacking than the hooker picking up metres out of dummy half or making LB's

Peats has started in over 50 FG games compared to Pritchard's 13 and played in 109 compared to Kaysa's 36. Big difference in experience levels. A bit like comparing Peats to Smith and wondering why he isn't as good a player.
