Regarding a middle forward recruit for next year what about Zane Tetevano from Roosters. I don't know whether he's contracted for next year but could be a cheap handy pickup. Big player that plays tough, just what we need when the going gets tough. Evans doesn't strike me as a tough player who will take it to opposing players when they are dominating.
PS I NEVER want to see Parra thrashed again like they were against Roosters a short time ago.

No. Shouldn't be playing NRL with what he did

RE Vaughan, the club made an offer of $375k to a reserve grader at Canberra that Sticky wanted out. The Dragqueens paid $650k, a desperate gamble that has paid off. Sometimes they do, have to look at Lussick/Harrison and others at different clubs for instance to see that it doesn't always work.

The salary cap is interesting, we are in good hands, there are clubs have accounted for in excess of $10 million for 2018 on a current cap of $9.2 million. Understand we are well placed even for 2018 , but there are feelings that the NRL will buckle and allow some clubs to exceed the cap as there would be players unable to find a home on their contracted salary if the $9.2 was adhered to and they were forced to be released.

This is the pressure that a couple of clubs (usual suspects) will put to the table as these negotiations continue

If the NRL are serious about a level playing field, they should force the clubs to release sufficient talent to make them cap compliant, cover the contracts of those that are released and negotiate with clubs within the cap to take them off their hands.

Yes it's a costly exercise but the NRL have brought this upon themselves with not having a clear cap for 2018 and beyond.

Just for the record, Vaughan played 18 NRL games in 2016, averaging 117m and 2.9 metres per minute. In the same season Paulo averaged 111m and 2.2m per minutes played. Ricky didn't so much 'want him out' as much as he needed to balance where the club had their money invested.

And on his form of 2015 and 2016 I can see why.
Don't forget though in 2015 and 2016 he wasn't earning anywhere near what you are concerned about him being on now.

Compare him when he was on say $200k- $250k with some of the duds we have had on that type of money like Lussick, Lasalo and Mossop and he wins hands down.

Did you miss hia volume of work last year?
There were 2 other forwards in the entire comp playing the same minutes who made more meters and tackles.

Two.

Not Tepai's fault some were expecting to see 80m runs 5 times a game....

Any club fielding a squad over the salary cap value should not be able to play for points until they are under the cap, regardless of how or why they got in that position.
Absolutely

If the NRL back down and let some clubs assemble rosters for season 2018 and beyond based on a supposition by those clubs that the cap was going to be higher - and especially if it's one of those usual suspects we all marvel at how they manage to stay under the cap every year - and they end up winning the comp, just how will that wash with fans of all compliant clubs who go through another season watching a team from Bondi or Belmore amazingly play in yet another finals series or GF when it's supposed to be a level playing field?

It won't wash with me that's for sure. Imagine if one of these teams wins the 2018 GF - the NRL might as well put an asterisk on the NRL trophy next to 2018 with a disclaimer associated saying "Due to spineless ledership at the upper levels of NRL HQ, several teams were allowed to cheat the salary cap for season 2018 with our full support so it was probably our most uneven playing field ever" - perhaps that a tad too long for a disclaimer but I'll see if I can shorten it in time for next year's GF trophy engraving....

Paul Carter released immediately from the Roosters. No reason given in the Rooster official statement.
Jesus, he's going to give Arana Taumata a run for his money the way he's going this Carter fellow...

Must be a merkin with a capital C that bloke...

Absolutely. The clubs put themselves in that position by acting ahead of an official NRL position. Let's see if Greenberg takes the same position as he did with us.

But that's just the problem. If the NRL go the easy route, which I suspect they will, they will raise the cap to ensure these clubs are under the cap...effectively allowing them off without repercussions. At least in my scenario they are forced to shed talent.

Rams on the money, Teps a solid defender who works hard in that department but he offers very little else on the park.
Regardless of his few tries the last few weeks his ability in his attack is very low, so is his skill levels, theyve never really evolved in his time with us, hes very uncreative with ball in hand, he rarely takes any initiative in attack either.
Teps main problem is lacking a killer type attitude, he lacks mongrel and desperation out there, he works hard in defence but it all stops there.
Im not advocating getting rid of him, hes still young and has plenty of time to find a few new levels in his game, but if he wanted much more cash id let him go.
Ive no doubt Tep is very overrated by many eels fans.

Absolutely.* Do we have any evidence (as opposed to speculation) that clubs will be allowed to breach the cap? I would have thought that the NRL's get out of jail card will be to increase the cap but not the payments to the clubs. Either way it is a cluster f**k.

*I think it might be a little harsh to stop earning points if you breach the 2nd tier cap by $1000 as a result of an abnormal rate of injury.

Injury related breaches are pre-approved on application to the NRL before naming the playing squad each week.
