I never saw the Fog play - except the nines. But if he was as ordinary as everyone says he is, then why did we bring him down? Someone at our club obviously saw something in him. And BA played him in the nines which he was desperate to win - so he saw it too.

Makes you wonder about our talent spotting abilities......

He was player of the year in the QLD Cup. Nothing wrong with our talent spotting in this case, he was fantastic in QRL.

Plenty of reasons a player might not kick on that have little to do with talent.

Every club needs backups. I'd say in this case Fogarty became aware he would never be more than a backup and so asked for a release so he could get on with his life.

In Sydney on an NRL contract he is required to train full time. Back at Burleigh he can train part time and still have a day job. I believe he is a personal trainer, which can be quite lucrative.

Can it what! The fking PTs at my gym charge 75-90 bucks an hour. All off the back of a six week course....I've been contemplating a career change, lol.

Ever since DCE dominated Q Cup before making it to NRL, clubs have been falling over themselves trying to sign the next DCE.... Like you say, Fog was dominant in the Q Cup last year and we got him cheap - was worth a gamble and it's not like we paid him Sandow-esque money so I don't think anyone will be losing sleep over the fog lifting.... usually means sunny days ahead!!

They've had hefty losses, like any other side. IIRC they've conceded over 40 points in losses to France several times. France FFS....

ffs high scoring games arent hefty losses, or thrashings.

france, a great side on their day, not disimilar to the eels.

I'm not sure cubs were falling over themselves to sign Fogarty. If they were he would surely have been in the top 25 (and maybe he was but I seriously doubt it). NRL recruiters are aware of what to look for, and they all would have known Fogarty was a small chance of making it. That's why he was uncontracted (to an NRL club) for all of 2016.

Then again, other players have been only contracted to ISC clubs and gone on to make an impact in the NRL, including Kenny Edwards and Cody Walker. As for DCE, he was contracted to Manly while carving up the QLD Cup. Everyone knew he was a good chance of becoming a first grader ever since he played in the NYC.

Geez the Storm must be even worse then, they got belted in a grand final one time while cheating.

Teams get thrashed occasionally, no matter how good they are. How hard is that to understand? We don't like it, but anyone with a clue accepts it as part of footy. Or any sport really.

Once a team cant win its easy for a 14 point lead to turn into 2 or 3 late trys and its 32 point flogging.
Look at our game against Souths the other week. Should of been 28-6 with 15 to go. We could of run in 2 late tries as they give up. Then its 40-6.
Instead we get a score of 22-18

I would suggest the All Blacks and their fans felt very differently...45-30 odd is a hefty loss. Maybe not a genuine thrashing, but the ABs are a different beast ton almost any team in world sport.

I believe their biggest losing margin is 21. Seven penalty goals.

Yeah but that was refereeing m ore than anything. There are very rare teams that just don't fall into that trap, like the All Blacks. But yeah, it can be easy to let your head drop and suddenly be on the end of an absolute belting after hanging in for 65 mins. And by the same token it can be easy to put the cue in the rack and wind up winning 42-24 after being up 42-6.

From memory when we signed the Fog, Gutho hadn't been playing in the halves yet and Foran had left. We were desperate for a half and he was going great guns in the Q Cup so I think first intentions were that the Fog was going to be groomed for first grade or given a real chance at it, then Guth stood up at the end of last season.

Turns out there is only 1 person who hates Guth and that's the Fog.
