So what's everyone's favourite Bigfella moment?

Mine is each and every time avenger mentioned his real estate portfolio. Bigfella would absolutely go bat shit crazy!!!!!
One of my most memorable bigfella moments was actually him on the receiving end ... when terry lebeater started posting on here pre-election and had no idea how the quoting thing worked - bifella quoted someone else and terry mistook it for bigfella's opinion and proceeded to incorrectly tear into him ... lol

Well he was proven right when it came to Seward and the clowns on the board.

Yeh, what I was about to say was that I had several lively debates with BF about various management issues........and in retrospect I reckon he was dead right in at least 86% of cases.

Has anyone ever met him in the flesh? From memory he accessed the site several months after he stopped posting, then nothing.

Basically what IFR33K said. The bloke was a total downer and one of the biggest deathriders on here IMO. And I mean, I'm the first to admit I can be a cranky prick and have a real go at people, but disagree with bigfella once and you were in for weeks of abuse anywhere you posted. As a poster I sure don't miss him.

The lads are probably right, it's probably Swifty....but there's a whiff of alien about this one too.

I initially thought along these lines. But over time I came to really like they guy.

If by some miracle they don't have a former top-level employee who's so wracked with guilt that they're willing to spill their guts to the NRL and the police even if it means being charged with fraud, then yeah they might get away with it.... But how likely is that?

You mean like the CEO who just quit.

NRL: Police probing illegal bets, money laundering and salary cap cheating

Michael Carayannis and Mark Morri, The Daily Telegraph

UPDATE: POLICE have uncovered what they believe could be a raft of spot fixing, money laundering and illegal third party payments during their investigation into alleged NRL match fixing.

One of the cash payments being investigated is as much as $300,000 and involves an NRL player.

The Daily Telegraph understands police are now focused on NRL players betting on themselves in exotic markets.

Police suspect Manly may have breached salary cap rules involving at least one player, a development that has sparked another major investigation by the NRL’s integrity unit.

However, police are set to clear anyone of being involved in organised match fixing from the original Strike Force Nuralda investigation involving three Manly Sea Eagles matches in the 2015-16 seasons.

Their opponents were Parramatta twice and South Sydney.

A senior source close to the investigation told The Daily Telegraph there are now suggestions of betting irregularities in multiple matches involving a number of NRL teams in previous seasons.

Allegations of tax evasion and other potential criminal activities have also been raised.

Some players are alleged to have passed on inside information regarding team selection and injuries to punters.

It is understood some NRL players are cooperating with police, while others are reluctant to discuss the allegations.

More players from multiple clubs are expected to be interviewed in coming weeks.

The NRL has taken a tough stance against spot fixing involving former Wests Tigers centre Tim Simona, who was banned indefinitely earlier this year.

Police have also questioned the NRL regarding the code’s use of third party payments, with suggestions illegal payments may have been made outside the salary cap to players.

The salary cap investigation extends to other clubs.

Parramatta lost 12 points as part of a massive salary cap scandal last season that was revealed by The Daily Telegraph.

The Daily Telegraph understands several whistleblowers have provided evidence to the NRL’s integrity unit about front office issues at Manly.

The Sea Eagles released a statement on Wednesday night saying they had not broken any rules.

“There are in fact no allegations that the club has been the subject of in relation to any components of the NRL salary cap or lower tier cap compliance,” the statement read. “Quite the contrary we recently had our 2017 midyear salary cap audit completed by the NRL in record time and without adjustment.

“The club remains the benchmark in relation to both salary cap and playing roster management at all levels across the NRL, something we remain immensely proud of.

This leading compliance position has been confirmed by the NRL over the past three years being the tenure of the current salary cap management team of the club.”

Strike Force Nuralda’s investigation was set to be finalised before this season started but was extended when new information about possible criminal behaviour was given to investigators during interviews with the powerful NSW crime commission and passed onto the NSW organised crime squad.

The NSW Crime Commission is often used by NSW because it has ‘coercive powers’ to jail witnesses who do not answer questions or lie to them.

A number of players and officials will be interviewed in the coming weeks and months about their knowledge or role in any alleged illegal behaviour involved in betting, salary breaches or money laundering.

The NRL said it was in regular discussions with police on matters relating to the game.

The NRL said it did not currently have any evidence of violations which would warrant disciplinary action.

“However, we are in constant dialogue with the police and will take action if it is warranted,” an NRL spokesman said.

Will Smith proves his worth with new Parramatta Eels contract
Will Smith has signed a new one-year deal at Parramatta after a proving his versatility in a role he'd only previously played a handful of minutes in.

Smith's career was at the crossroads last season after suffering a season-ending ACL injury just as he was pitching his case for a contract to Brad Arthur. The Eels coach took a punt on him anyway, although it wasn't clear how the former Panther would fit into his side. The opportunity finally came in the halves against North Queensland in round nine, but it's his work as an emergency dummy-half that convinced officials he was worth keeping.

Injuries to regular rakes including Kaysa Pritchard forced Smith into the hooking role, for up to 70 minutes at a time. Asked if he had previously played in the position, the 25 year old said: "Once. In the 2016 All Stars. I had five-minute stints here and there, but staying out for 60-70 minutes, at times it's tough.

"It's a big step up, you've got the big fellas running at you for the whole game. When Kaysa got injured, I'd go on early and punch out some minutes.

"I've played everywhere in the backline, I don't mind that. But playing hooker, I'm still getting used to it.

"It's exciting, being able to get amongst it all each week."

Smith feared his knee injury could prematurely end his career. However, he is grateful for getting a chance in the blue and gold, which has translated into a new contract.

"I just re-signed last week for another year," he said.

By submitting your email you are agreeing to Fairfax Media's terms and conditions and privacy policy .

"When I did my knee it was a bit stressful. I was off contract and on my manager's back to get something done. But once I signed I was excited to start training.

"It's a great club, a great coaching staff. When I first came to the club the boys were very welcoming, it's been an easy transition.

"We've got a good group here, not just for this year but going through for the next couple of years."

Smith, who has been named in jersey 17 for Saturday's away clash with Melbourne, is following in the footsteps of his father, Eddie. Smith senior was a footballing legend in Newcastle and also played predominantly in the halves.

"He's pushed and helped me along in my journey," Smith said.

"He's helped me to stay motivated and keep a cool, level head."

The Eels are in eighth spot, but sit just two wins away from a share of second place. They face a Storm side without their State of Origin stars and could begin a climb up the ladder on Saturday given they have the bye the following week and a relatively kind draw for the remainder of the season.

Aren't we all just men doing the motions needed to get through the day? Nothing we do will matter one day here on this earth. We will be forgotten like all the men before us. So what say you, when we discuss a game such as football from different perspectives? Life is just a game... And eventually the game will be over.
