Are you including keeping Brooks and losing Moses? Anyway I reckon the Knights. Ponga and Watson look good and the young guys will get better with the experience of this year. Tigers paid too much for Reynolds and probably Packer. And they lose Tedesco.

Yeah, I should have mentioned retention as well as recruitment, not just recruitment alone and how their squads look on that the basis of both... The non-retention of Tedesco alone is a massive negative for the Tigers

I would say Tautau Moga is the replacement for Gagai. A bit more limited as a player and he comes with injury baggage but he can provide similar strike for a fair bit less on the cap.

Forgot about Moga.

And tbh, Ponga is the obvious replacement for Gagai anyway. And if I were building a club and given that choice I'd take Ponga with daylight second.

It ruined the entire thing for me. Now it's your fault that I have to get pass out drunk.

Tigers have also gotten weaker in key positions....Tedesco replaced by Lolohea is a loss, Moses replaced by plod Reynolds is a loss....although they have improved their pack a lot.

Knights have strengthened key positions. Ponga is a freak and Watson is far better than a Lamb or a Cogger.

I'd back the Knights to improve more than the Tigers next year

Knights lost Gagai as well....

Warriors will be worse squad.

On Hoppa if he was fast he wpuld be a top fullback. His speed is his biggest weakenss.

I agree knights recruited smarter the tigers but tigers still should be improved slightly.

The question is how much better will the Roosters be with Teddy?

It will be interesting to see how Ponga, Watson, Guerra, Moga, Essese go when they're not playing for good teams.

At least you know what you're getting with Lolahea, Reynolds, Matulino, Packer and McQueen when they've played in ordinary squads.

I'd contend that those players will go a long way towards making Newcastle into a good team....

It's possible they will, but as I alluded too, they've all been 'bit' players in strong teams. Guerra was pretty ordinary last season in a pretty ordinary Roosters Team. I think the Knights are still missing a forward leader.

Pretty fair point

Guerra has been very badly used. The games he's played exclusively on the edge he's killed it. They are being heavily linked to Graham but even if they don't get him they'll be a mid table team with the signings they've made.

Their attitude is really good, even this year. They play the way they have the last few weeks with those names in the side they will win plenty more games next year. They've signed really well. Being a side that has had problems scoring points they've addressed that in a big way.

As you say, you know what you're going to get with a lot of the Tigers signings...but that's also because they've all reached their ceiling. Packer and Matulino will improve them. Reynolds won't. McQueen is solid but no better than Lawrence.

Are you saying that in your opinion those recruits could at some point in the future have them operating at an above average level?

You could even say that, were those names and several others already at Newcastle to be assembled into some sort of order, a list perhaps, that I would find that list rather pleasing to the eye.

Is Lawrence leaving? I thought he recently re-signed.

I expect both the Knights and Tigers to become mid table teams who will challenge for the Top 8 at least. Anyone could finish bottom 4 next season.

I reckon all the Tigers recruits will improve them. It just might not cover for the loss of Tedesco and Woods. But they have had a lot of off field shit bringing them down this year. Assuming they pull together and have a solid, settled pre-season I can see the Tigers improving next year.

How good would it be to have a comp where most teams are simultaneously fighting for a spot in the eight and to avoid the wooden spoon with a few weeks to go.
