"The under-performing Eels are preparing for a cleanout at the end of the season after paying massive ‘overs’ to sign Raiders prop Junior Paulo for 2019.
Paulo, a Kiwi who began his career at the Eels, is all but done on a four-year deal worth over $600,000 a season - money his current club Canberra simply couldn’t match.
Already dead and buried as a finals contender, the Eels are planning for 2019 and have several other big-name targets.
But that means players will have to go, and the club is set to cut up to 10 members of its current roster to complete a makeover for next year.
A host of big names, including Kirisome Auva'a, David Gower, Jarryd Hayne, George Jennings, Cameron King, Suaia Matagi, Kaysa Pritchard, Beau Scott, Peni Terepo, Siosaia Vave and Tony Williams are off contract and many will be told they are free to leave.
The Eels are also likely to offer other players who are under contract for 2019 to rival clubs to free up more space in the salary cap."
