We lost Radradra and Fritchard, and gained Hayne, Williams and Evans. Anyone who knows footy would see that as a net gain, which is why we were one of the premiership favourites at the start of the year.

Maybe we should check the 2018 predictions thread? I seem to recall a number of people rating our chances at the start of the season.

They should get rid of one of their biggest money spinners? Because it is 'dumb'? Have you thought of applying for a role in the NRL's strategic planning unit?

Origin is worth about 90m a year to the NRL, and 3 of the biggest rating programmes of the year. Not bad for something so dumb.

- Refs let us get away with being offside a lot in 2017 as well as laying all over the ruck and that has been cracked down on this year and we seemed unprepared for it
- We had less of a focus on the wrestle and up/down conditioning this pre-season (compared to previous years) more of a focus on running mechanics
- Our big middle merkins Alvaro and Tepai leaned up a bit in the pre-season
- Scott, Matagi and Vave are now almost passed it
- We not only miss Semi's metre gains but also his freakish line break and try scoring ability
- Cameron King was great for us last year but he now seems to be behind Will Smith as our hooker?!?!

These are a few things off the top of my head.

Plus coaches never make mistakes. And it’s all the players fault with their shitty attitudes anyway.......

I actually agree that, in one sense it is pretty dumb. But your average league fan struggles to remember whether they should put their undies on first or their trousers, so it is very well-targeted marketing.

I never make predictions, then I can smugly sit back and laugh at the people who got it badly wrong.

Well, at least our cap is looking good and it appears we have the ability to make some changes, as opposed to other sides at the bottom like the dogs , manly and raiders who all appeared to have a stuffed up cap!!

At least BA’s cap management gives us the ability to improve the squad.

Additionally I have a theory BA is looking to do a Smith in a year or 2 (see 2000 and 01) and bring in a bunch of juniors once they are ready sometime in the next 2 or so years.

We have a bunch of players off contract around 2019/20 which is around the time our current development players and potentially some other 20’s players may be ready for NRL action.

Which I reckon was BA’s plan when he took over the eels - build a decent squad then start promoting juniors. He does take interest in the juniors more then previous coaches.

They make mistakes but any bonehead like yourself who thinks that you know with certainty what mistakes he has made and why he has made them is kidding themselves. You only have a very small understanding of what actually goes on.
