By my calculation we have space to move possibly 4 players into the top squad at present.
1. Fill spot 30 which doesn't need to be filled until June 30
2. Replace TRex (season ending injury)
3. Replace Kenny (released)
4. Replace Scott (if he has done ACL and is season ending)

Unfortunately, I think the money paid to TRex, Kenny and Scott will still count against our cap, so it may be we need to do some minor upgrades to development squad players or even just some minimum salary signings. The intricacies of the cap are not even known by the NRL until after the event these days.

If it is as many as 4 players, I would be doing this:
1) Push hard to get Jnr Paulo asap, even though he is injured. Better to get AFL guy to work on his weight loss than leave it to Ricky and Co.
2) Move Ray Stone up from Development Squad as both a reward and as a means of seeing over the remaining rounds whether he has what it takes to make it in FG.
3) Same with Reed Mahoney - fixes our lack of a hooker option and tests out Reed for the future. I know he is only 20 but Storm debuted a 20 year old last night off the bench in the hooker role and he is no bigger according to the stats then Mahoney.
4) Bring Dane Aukafolau into the top squad.

Oh and for 2019, I would be throwing the bank at Alex Walmsley, Alex Walmsley, Alex Walmsley, Alex Walmsley - say no more.
I'm pretty sure there is no free roster spots for season ending injuries. You only get to bring new blokes into the 17 (not the top 30) if you run out of top 30 players.

Amateur hour for the people that run this competition to be honest.

The NFL have the IR to place players on so that they can be replaced in the 53 man squad.

Do the NRL have any clue what they're doing? Why can't you replace them if they are out for the season, it makes zero sense.
That's because the NFL uses 35 players on match day. The 30 man NRL squad is almost double the number of players used in a game. It should be enough to get through a season.

Honestly, what is the point of having a 30 man squad if you can just bring new merkins in when you get a few injuries? Injuries are the only way some of those 30 blokes could get a run.

They use 46 on game day of their 53 man roster. They have a 10 man practice squad as well which are development.

I am ok with a 30 man squad but they really should be able to replace season ending injuries within that 30.

Well that sux then.

So we have lost 2 forwards in Scott and Williams which probably means we could play Stone until other forwards return... he was named in 21 which is okay from the development squad but would have needed NRL permission to play. Now Scott is out we only have 8 forwards for this weeks game in our top 30 (assuming Taka is still in the centres).

Without injuries there are 13 players that can't get a run on game day. Some of these merkins would be hoping for 13 injuries so they get a run. If you could bring in new players to replace injured merkins some of those 30 still wouldn't get a run. So why have them in the squad in the first place?

Takairangi need to go back into the forwards. Auva'a can play centre.

Either way, the NRL seem to be pretty loose about their squad rules - every week clubs are getting permission to bring in a player not named in the 21, for example. I'm sure with our injury toll we could convince them to let us field a couple of development players.

There was also that time on the Gold Coast when he slapped a fan and when the cops arrived he pretended he had a leg cramp. He's no cleanskin.
