If we can get someone stupid enough to take him off our hands for almost his contract amount I'd be happy to see him go. But as I said thats not going to happen, When Ricky let blokes go and paid them to play elsewhere it was bad but when the chosen one BA does it its all tickety boo. If MJ costs us 700k but we can throw in 200k but sign a guy like Ferguson for 500k then id pay the 200k and sign Fergo.

Was always a dumb contract. 4 yrs for a guy who always been inconsistent

What about Latu or Cartwright. Both signed for decent dollars at titans and neither making side. Add Peachey and Boyd to the forwards and it looks stacked for 2019.
Id do a straight swap, those 2 for MJ.

You’re only backending $50k in years 2 & 3 (ie not $300k like some stories you hear like Robbie Farrar). You get rid of a thorn in your side and sign a young gun on the rise.

Makes good business sense to me.

Not saying that backending is a practice that I would encourage throughout the roster, but I can see validity in doing it from time to time.

2 things:
1. If you pay him 200k he will still likely still be in our top 30 players so then we are 1 squad member short.
2. Also what 'gun' is available for around 625k a year? Please don't tell me that we should keep it free 'in case' someone becomes available next year. Merkins were saying that about us this year and we signed no one.
