Interesting topic Ivor.
I think The Mayor might come out on top but Edge and Price would be very close seconds . Higgs was pretty good as well.

Hard to argue that a bloke who was Captain for 75% of our Premierships and more than 50% of our Grand Final appearances wasn't our best ever leader.

Was the Mayor a leader or just a star who influenced results like The Plane?

Check him out on Wikipedia. He certainly had influence and Im yet to see a player more loved by fans.

On another, more contemporary topic, but very related to the photo.

Steve Edge must have been some leader of a calibre hardly seen at this club before or since.

Gibson certainly seemed to think so anyway.
He was the icing on the cake that Parra desperately needed. At the time, a hooker that won a better share of the ball (when scrums meant something) usually gave their team a distinct advantage. The Eels lost some major games before we had Edge in the team because we struggled to win possession in the scrums against teams with a better rake. A bonus was his leadership which he had honed at the Dragons before heading to Parra.

How come we haven't done it before, then? Is BA a slow learner?
I would say the criticism that he is a slow learner (which you have just introduced) is arguably more valid than the previous criticisms which suggested he was a crazy, cooky, weird mutherf**ker trying to introduce training regimes from Satan himself.

Just had another chat with Mick.
Reckons craft beers for morons and he'd rather suck the head off a hammer.

Who knows what the pigs talk about in a scrum?

It was crisis day in the parliament
The house was hushed and still.
A member rose with a question
“Are we doomed to go downhill?”
“I am confident of an upturn”,
The PM made reply.
“If workers pay is held at bay,
We'll all be home and dry.”
“How true, how true”, cried the workers.
“Let's end this wicked strike.
We don't want a rise in wages,
They can stick it where they like.”
“Thank God, Thank God”, sobbed the bosses.
“There's faith on the factory floor.
And now we've got this extra lot
We'll give it to the poor.”
They filled their pockets with money
And ran with eager feet
Pressing their surplus profits
On the people in the street.
They moved among the dole queues
And boarded every bus
With streaming eyes and heartfelt cries
“You need it more than us”.
Soon all the people prospered
And the devil became a saint
Now the sober unions
Had exercised restraint.
The cities were filled with singing
And the sound of laughter spread
As hand took hand in the golden land
and pigs flew overhead.
