Interesting topic Ivor.He certainly was. I can't think of a better captain that we've had.
I think The Mayor might come out on top but Edge and Price would be very close seconds . Higgs was pretty good as well.

Check him out on Wikipedia. He certainly had influence and Im yet to see a player more loved by fans.Hard to argue that a bloke who was Captain for 75% of our Premierships and more than 50% of our Grand Final appearances wasn't our best ever leader.
Was the Mayor a leader or just a star who influenced results like The Plane?
Probably neither.
P.S. To those who take this statement literally I am just suggesting it is one component.
He was the icing on the cake that Parra desperately needed. At the time, a hooker that won a better share of the ball (when scrums meant something) usually gave their team a distinct advantage. The Eels lost some major games before we had Edge in the team because we struggled to win possession in the scrums against teams with a better rake. A bonus was his leadership which he had honed at the Dragons before heading to Parra. On another, more contemporary topic, but very related to the photo.
Steve Edge must have been some leader of a calibre hardly seen at this club before or since.
Gibson certainly seemed to think so anyway.
I've heard it is approaching 100 degrees. @Poupou Escobar can you confirm this?that dressing room keeps getting hotter
I would say the criticism that he is a slow learner (which you have just introduced) is arguably more valid than the previous criticisms which suggested he was a crazy, cooky, weird mutherf**ker trying to introduce training regimes from Satan himself. How come we haven't done it before, then? Is BA a slow learner?

Yup.Anyone else confirm it is definitely Chris Phelan?
Two Girls. One Cupcake.Cupcake.
Barrett even switched those orange 1970s-style bar heaters on, though luckily they were mounted in their usual spot on the ceiling, so they did f**k all.I've heard it is approaching 100 degrees. @Poupou Escobar can you confirm this?
