The plan was 4 hours there with some lunch and a coffee.
If I meet a girl in that time I extend to 5hrs
Now I know you're lying! 4 hours and 5 mins (if you're lucky) will be all you need. And that includes negotiating the price. Now I know your a cheapskate so start the offer more than a gold coin donation.

To be honest Hayne would shit all over Ken Thornett in their primes, that's why its impossible to compare generations. Clive Churchill wouldn't even make it in any team today, if fact he probably wouldn't make it in any junior team. This is not saying some of these players wouldn't make it today but they wouldn't be superstars like they were in their generation.

Compare any 50/60/70/80s player to today's player and the differences are obvious. Today's players are much, much bigger, stronger and usually more skilful, and much much better paid. Today's players are true professionals whereas until the 80s most players had another job to survive. Today most backs are around 100kg and forwards 110kg or more, in 80s and before most forwards were battling to be 100kg.

Really? You don’t think if the players of the 50’s to the 80’s were to also train full time they wouIdn’t be as big, powerful and skilful as today’s players?

Probably the only difference in my opinion is players may just excel at different positions, Kenny may have been a fullback, Cronin a edge forward etc etc as positions have different skill sets today.

Hardest pre-season ever!

It must be hard being you guys. I mean f**k. 2019 we have a new stadium.
Signed two players who potentialy are ORIGIN quality. Another guy who is quite promising in Lane.
Our squad has flaws like many teams but its also loaded with some fine talent. Moses,Norman,Jennings,Gutherson where down on form. All are capable at playing at origin quality amd the first two where talked about at start of year. Add guys like Tepai,Brown and Alvaro along with who may not play origin but are certainly capable of playing at origin level.

Norman Moses jennings Gutherson Ferguson
Jnr Alvaro Lane Tepai Brown

These guys all should start season with goals of being considered for the Blues or Qld. I dont see any getting picked due to other guys playing at origin level but it doesnt mean they cant play at the same level....They have the ability too.

The rest we just need to do a job. And hope a few promising jnrs step up and replace them. Guys like Manu,Mannah, Terepo will not let us down. They'll do their jobs.
I am possitive about 2019. I feel our sqad has flaws but enough possitive to push for finals with some luck.

The squad is at a nice age too. Enough young guys pushing the old guys and plenty of guys in peak years.

Interestingly while backs are getting bigger, both the current Australian wingers are quite small at only around 90kg each......

I tend to agree, though there are also qualities that are less important in the modern game, particularly game awareness and ball skills for non-spine players, as well as toughness/aggression that were once rewarded. These days being tough or skilful won’t make up for a lack of size or pace.

I think there is a role for skill...Do Thurston, Smith and Cronk have any size or pace? For mine football skills and smarts is what separates the greats from the pretty good.

See if I posted this, you and @el merkin would jump up and down callin’ me a titty twister. Go figure.

Give your detailed reasons and I wouldn't. I just never see them.
I dont think BA is great but I reckon he is learning. Just like players this could be his break out. I dont understand why people think coaches cant get better at their jobs and responsibilties with experience ? Seems dumb way of thinking.
I get better each day at anything I persist with.

Not necessarily the same as today's players. There's been a hell of alot of advancements in sports science, training methods, medical recovery, etc etc, in the last 30 - 60 years.

Is he great or just the in faction battering ram of the day?

The Storm made him look pretty average in the 2017 GF.
And the Roosters made Smith look average last year. Has he lost skill or guile? Or has he lost other qualities?

This is putting aside the fact that one game is a stupid criterion for judging a player, grand final or otherwise. Judge Taumalolo et al across a season or a career, not one game.

Happy to judge Taumalolo at the end of his career. it's obvious he wasn't the player in 2018 that he was in 2017 to start with. Yet Smith seems to just keep on keeping on.

Fui had his moments, possibly more dominant than Taumalolo, but it was short lived.
