Rumours and Stuff

Then don't be surprised of half of your career you don't earn anywhere near as much as you could have.

Simple fact is that these guys earn major coin because they are public figures and earn based on fans interest. Codes of conduct are real things.
Assuming he's not guilty, what codes of conduct were broken?

I actually think he’d be more of a desperation signing “by BA” than Luke would be. Surprised no one else has brought that up
The whole club is desperate, and BA doesn't make the signings. Looking to the future is fine but we just ran last. We need to worry about the present first.

I don't see Mahoney ever being any better than McInnes, which is fine. But why wait years for him to become a solid first grader when we can buy one right now?

Who gets to determine what circumstances are OK? The NRL? You? Mrs Lovejoy? It's a Pandora's Box that doesn't need to be opened. Just like you and I and everyone else, players are free to meet with whomever they choose. And do whatever they choose, within the law. IF they break the law then they're subject to the same punishments as well.
Absolutely. But the consequence is that there is a chance that you will be accused of a heinous crime, be charged and then stood down until your case is heard on full pay.

They absolutely have a choice and now that the NRL have made it a policy they either take the risk or not. I guess DeBelin and Walker are entitled to feel a bit aggrieved as it’s being applied retrospectively but I can live with that.

Luke made sense in so much that he would be here for a couple of years and then Mahoney would take over. McIness is a young player himself. What exactly did the article say? I can’t find anything online.
I don’t think there was an article. Incorrect said it was on Seven News or something

McInnes is one of the more left-field signings I’ve heard of for us in recent times, but I think he’d be a major step forward. The bloke was only very marginally behind Cook for mine as NSW hooker last year, and I think he’s a better defender than Cook, as well as being very solid in attack. He’d have to be our best dummy half since Peats if he does sign. Hope it comes together.

How long would have Brett Stewart been stood down for? (Time frame from being charged till his not guilty finding)

Let’s look at it in a different industry. Let’s say your child attends a long day care. An educator has been accused of indecently assaulting a child in their care. As a parent, do you want that person continuing to work in that service whilst the investigation takes place? What if the educator is then charged by Police? Can he still work there until his day in court?

Would you have been happy sending your child to George Pell’s mass prior to his conviction?

No I don’t want them working there because they are a potential danger to the people they work with (kids). Jack de Belin is not likely to rape any of his team mates or opponents during games.

Keep calm mate, channel 7 f**ked up. It's McGregor you are trying to sign, not McInnes.:p

I think a better way of looking at it is, would you, as manager of a daycare centre, want an educator who is accused of negligence to continue working with children with those allegations over them? Would you want to tell parents that they were innocent until proven guilty even if it meant yoiur reputation as a daycare suffered?

Would you, as hypothetical NRL CEO, want him representing your brand with those allegations all through the papers?

Probably not but I reckon he is more likely to be exposed to impressionable young women as a high profile NRL player on the TV every week than not.

Yeah probably a better example.

An accusation of negligence still relates to (a lack of) the ability to care for a child/children. So no, I wouldn’t want them working there because it’s a charge directly related to the work they are asked to perform.

And what about the other questions? You are fixated on the charge, when that isn't the point of the discussion.

Regardless of the charges then, would you want to defend a worker to parents as they take their children out of care and that worker damages your business reputation? Or would you stand them down, placate your clients, and let the investigation run its course before acting on the actual employment of the worker?

Why did they pick an 11 year sentence as the point at which they can stand a player down? Seems a strange number. Why not 10 or 12 or 15?

I'd be interested to know the specific crime in any jurisdiction in Australia (or NZ) that carries a maximum of 11 years imprisonment.
