I think we can considering their wage and the fact they have agreed to a code of conduct that clearly outlines the behaviour expected of them.

Also, the majority of offenders this offseason would not fall in the adolescent, or even young adult, categories so what is their excuse?

I know plenty of merkins in their early to late 20's. Many are manchilds. They may physically have the appearance of a grown man, however their prefrontal cortex is yet to develop as it should by age 25.

Peni’s case looks more like being somewhat irresponsible than anything else. Took alcohol onto the plane, behaved stupid, fell asleep then went quietly with security/police for a warning.

Didn’t advise the club who were left in the lurch do to speak when the media reported it. Not really a contract tearing up offence, but should be made to do something like school liaison work for a while similar to community work order.

Needs to address his team mates and admit he had undone all the good with they have shown in the preseason. Still a complete boof head.

Do you have a source for that because it’s certainly not in the article you posted.

What I posted is by no means a scientific revelation. Do yourself a favour and google "drug addiction", "elite sportsmen" and "risk taking" as key words.

There are voluminous references for you wade though.

It's not a cop out. Moreso it is an acknowledgement that elite sportsman are also prone to be high risk takers. Add to the mix high incomes compared with their age group and the likelihood of them getting involved in dickheadness is exponentially higher.

Just saying that some kids will be able to pull their heads in and some won't. As much as it is astonishing to us that some seemingly never learn, they are just wired that way. So don't expect it to go away.

I am sure that we could collectively come up with a list of players who had the world at their feet, only to circum to innate dickheadness.

It is a cop out. You're allowing them to be idiots because they're athletes. It's giving them an excuse.

It isn't a hard concept to fathom. Drinking alcohol = bad

You do not know Peni circumstances or where he is at mentally. I am finding the Peni hate quite annoying now. He has been with the club the longest since Mannah. He is part of the team and fans should be wanting to help the guy.

I was talking about the NRL cohort. Not specifically Peni.

Well idiots will still be f**king up in 30 years time. Like it or not clubs will need to deal with the immaturity of their players on an ongoing basis.

Id say drug taking depends on the drug.
Do you think Heroin addicts are happy individuals and big risk takers? Id say they hate their life and want to die.

People snortn coke most likely have too much money and just wna feel good.
Kids taking party drugs just want to have fun and escape the repetivness of the weekly grind.
Bong heads most likely dont want to accept reallity
And piss heads drink to forget and to relax cause they find life boring also.

I think we're talking about different things here. I'm saying that it's obvious that alcohol should not be consumed by athletes as it negatively effects their performance. You're saying that they'll do it anyway because they're young, which is fair enough, I get that. But just because they're predisposed to risk-taking behaviour does not mean that they shouldn't be giving up the grog.

Forget about them being idiots on or off the drink. What I am purely talking about is the effects to performance. It restricts blood-flow making muscle recovery take longer. If a player wants to potentially have a longer career and aide their recovery process, which they are in from the time trials start until their last game of the year, they would be better off not drinking alcohol.

Here are the ages of the players embroiled in controversy over the offseason...
Over 25
Hayne - 31
Barba - 29
Bolton - 31
Terepo - 27
DeBelin - 27
Moga - 25
Chee-Kam - 27

Under 25
May - 22
Walker - 24
Saifiti - 22
Napa - footage taken when he was younger
Musgrove - 22

There were actually more players whose prefrontal cortex should have been further developed. No doubt young people take more risks in general but the extent to which these idiots are pushing the boundaries leads me to believe its more a case of bad apples.

Agreed. Would you describe Hayne for example as mature in the way he approaches life ? I vote no.

I’d vote no as well. That doesn’t mean the rest of the NRL playing roster approaches life in the same manner. As I said, I reckon it’s a case of a bad apples.

We agree in part then. My opinion is that bad apples = risk taker manchilds.

’How stupid are you?’ Mark Riddell rages at disgraced Parramatta Eel Peni Terepo

Former Parramatta Eels hooker Mark Riddell has let rip at Peni Terepo after the prop was stood down by the club for allegedly being drunk and abusive on a flight.
Terepo was travelling from Tonga to Auckland on Saturday when he is said to have acted inappropriately towards a female flight attendant.

According to one passenger, the Eels forward asked the stewardess, “what are you doing after or tonight?”, and, “do you come to Parramatta?”.

The Eels stood the prop down on Monday and it led to this tirade from Riddell.

Speaking on Macquarie Sports Radio and making reference to the NRL’s off-season from hell, Riddell fired into the 27-year-old

“Has he not seen what the game has gone through over the last few months?” Riddell said.

“Have you got any sort of intelligence whatsoever — a week out from when you’re supposed to play your first game in the NRL.

“Sometimes I don’t like bagging players but surely there needs to be some common sense.

“I just honestly couldn’t believe it, what is it going take to get through to some players.

“After what the game has been through, who would even think of doing that.

“I can sense the frustration in my own voice — how stupid are you (to do this)?

“I found it utterly ridiculous and I can’t believe he put himself in that position.

“The Eels are under pressure, I’m hoping they’re going to improve but they don’t need these off-field distractions.”
It is not the first time the Tongan has got himself into hot water.

In 2017, he was handed a $15,000 fine and given a three-game ban after he failed to tell the club he had refused a blood-alcohol test and pleading guilty to careless driving.

The Eels travel to Penrith on Sunday for their opening game of the 2019 NRL season.

We are all on the edge of our seats waiting for every comment by Piggy Riddell.
