I agree with our cautious approach; responsible cap management is something I can get behind.

However, Gutherson is a guy you build a club around, imo.

Throw him what he wants - $750,000 for 4 years? He's worth that, imo.

I’d be particularly interested to find out what made him flick the switch at halftime. We have/had a lot of fair weather players the past few years but few that took on being down to play better like Gutho did tonight. If it was an individual determination to turn his own effort around then he’s worth whatever he was asking for

I think it also had to do with possession/momentum.

He was playing defence in the first half. Came out after the break and played much more attack

The momentum wasn’t with Drags that much in the 1st half though. We weren’t having trouble getting to decent field position. We just weren’t doing shit to post points and some of that falls on Gutho. And he was rarely near the ball. But that 2nd half, it was like a switch went “hey you’re f**king super fit so how about you just get ridiculously involved” and it was like he was involved in every tackle

Clearly it was a text book ambush

Except Elgey had a blinder without DCE there to force him into second fiddle. Merkins might not remember (because his defence isn't up to NRL standard) but Elgey was the next big thing a few years ago. He's a brilliant playmaker, and without DCE he had room to step up. They also had their big three middle forwards, and with 56% of the ball their defensive inadequacies were minimised. Plus it was against the f**king Bulldogs.

And Canberra last week too
