BA is building what exactly? This is 6yrs in now.

I dont have any faith in what he is building. I reckon all his signings are just pot luck. Some good and some terrible.

But hey Rooster paid Crighton close to 1 mill. Everyone will make mistakes.
You don't think Crichton went to the Roosters on unders for the chance to win a premiership?

I'd be interested to see their TPA amount now that Slater is no longer on the TPA pay roll. I suggest they no longer have $1m in TPA's and when Smith retires will be lucky to come up with $300k in TPA's
It's the illegal TPAs that make the dfference anyway, not the legal ones. The legal ones don't let you spend less on players under the cap. Illegal ones do.

Remember, last time Melbourne played in four straight grand finals they were cheating. Now they've played in three straight grand finals and looking good for a fourth but they're suddenly able to do it without cheating? If it's so easy why did they need to cheat last time?

I think they had better players back then. Some of their players would be on bugger all and we wouldn't pay them minimum wage, well we shouldn't, but they seem to still get value out of them.

I suggest we're paying more for our Fullback, 1 Winger more than either of theirs, 1 Centre more than both of theirs, our Halfback more than theirs, our Lock more than theirs, 1 Edge Forward more than both of theirs, and 1 Front Rower more than 1 of theirs. I'd also suggest we're paying more for our 4 bench players than they are for theirs.

Melbourne also manage their cap by having $1m in registered TPAs.
Exactly .... and anyone believing the roosters dont have massive outside the cap payments too are dellusional .... would also love to know those clubs spending on stuff other than player salaries

Im not saying they are not good .... but they f**kin should be

Yeah i would love to see the figures without slater ..... in my opinion, marquee players are the only ones who attract real TPAs .... but how much of that million was legit TPAs to smith & slater? They are obviously giving others quite a whack outside the cap too - munster is the only other true marquee now

Even if you are right, having $1m of TPAs for year after year helps you build a squad (keeping those players while you develop others). It's a massive advantage. Then you add in the boats, testimonial games etc.

“Struggling Penrith are undergoing a major roster overhaul which could result in Tyrone Peachey returning home and boom centre Waqa Blake being offloaded to the Parramatta Eels.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal coach Ivan Cleary is prepared to release Blake, front-rower Reagan Campbell-Gillard and young forward Jack Hetherington after a poor start to the season.

The Panthers last week offered the injured Blake to the Gold Coast in a swap deal with Peachey, who wants out from the Titans for personal reasons.

Instead Blake wants to join Parramatta, who are still $500,000 under the salary cap this year.

Titans performance boss, Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga, says he will consider granting Peachey a release.

“Family always comes before football,” Meninga said last night.

“There is a strong interest from Penrith so he has to decide what he wants to do. He hasn’t asked for a release. It has been instigated by Penrith.

“You have to be compassionate. Tyrone is a quality player and person and we will offer him every respect. He is torn. He wants to fulfil his contract but there’s a few personal issues to sort through.”

Penrith’s decision to release Kiwi star Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is the beginning of a Panthers fire sale at the foot of the mountains.

Former general manager Phil Gould signed Blake to a four-year contract extension in October.

That he is now being offered a release show how far Gould’s opinions varied from Cleary on recruitment and why he walked out on the club.

Meanwhile Watene-Zelezniac is on the verge of signing at the Wests Tigers. The deal has been slightly delayed because a contract cannot be registered until coach Michael Maguire releases a player.

The Eels made the move for Blake knowing they had missed out on Watene-Zelezniak.

Blake is out with a knee injury until round 20 at the earliest but would join the Eels before June 30 and be available later in the season.

The decision to allow Campbell Gillard to look elsewhere will shock Penrith fans.

He has played for NSW and Australia in recent years and is regarded as one of the best front-rowers in the game.”

Blake and Campbell-Dullard would fill a need in our team. RCG is a very good defender and Blake seemed to have improved this year. He's obviously not much use injured though. It's more of a signing for next year.

RCG is a dreadfull defender and his biggest weakness...But he needs a fresh start and him and JNR would be a good forward start with LODGE.
Hethrington would be a cheap project player. This kid if coached right could be a boom signing with very little risk.

W.Blake would be an awesome signing. Has Cleary lost his mind?

I understand shedding the other 2.

Last I checked RCG made 30 tackles last night with 0 missed. Not bad for a terrible defender.
