Rumours and Stuff

I'm somewhat concerned about our depth at hooker, fullback and centre. Probably most about hooker. Would Radradra solve any of that? Hard to know. He might be a brilliant centre option. He might not. Ferguson might be good at centre, he might not. Either of them might go alright at fullback, they might not (I think they wouldn't). I would love to see Semi on one wing and Sivo on the other. What a sight that would be! But we currently (for the first time in ages) have a fairly well-balanced team. We need to maintain that. With great reluctance, I would not go after Semi. I would go after a steady (probably young) fullback, and another hooker to support Mahoney or replace him if injured.

Until Jennings re-signs we do have a starting centre spot available and some cash (we have offered Jennings a contract).

I think Fonua who is training with the NRL squad (I think 21 next year), is a full back.

And we definitely need a back up hooker, but not many options available. Maybe King on the minimum could be an option.

With Mennings still not re-signed we're a bit weak at centre. Blake is excellent (though injured) and after that we have a bunch of options who are only really backup standard - Takairangi, Salmon and Parry. Or Ferguson to centre and Gennings to the wing. Maybe Parry will grow another head after a full off season and emerge in round one as a first grader. Maybe it will be Salmon instead? Fingers crossed but I hope Mennings re-signs. It's very exciting.

GJennings played centre for Wenty.
Taka,Salmon,GJ and Parry would do a reasonable job.

Would have Jennings started preseason if we had re-signed him or later because of his rep commitments?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Fergo is a terrible centre.

Probably crap and means nothing but it is a rumour and crap thread....the mole liked this tweet:

Played a bit of centre this year.... Is he our plan b if Mennings doesn't re-sign??!!

Seriously though, he is a shadow of the player he was 2 years ago, dunno what happened to him. Maybe a change of club is what he needs. Or change of coach which is what I think the whole Cows team needs to be frank...

As backups maybe but we probably need another top 17 centre, unless Parry or Salmon step up by round one.

George is better then Parry from games I have seen.
His stats show he was very good when fit also. Always breaking tackles. I think people forget in 2018 he was one of our better players.

But we're talking about centre, which requires defence first and foremost. Gennings' defensive issues won't be resolved at his age whereas Parry just needs a stronger upper body. He'll probably have one by March.

You can be humble and yet business savvy. If the offer is genuine then how could you expect a 19 yr old not to accept it. He ‘humbly’ accepted it.
Others closer to the club will know better than me but wasn't there some tension with his old man and BA/coaching staff about him not getting a run in 1st grade early this year/ pre-season training? I know he got injured in the pre-season trial but there was talk prior to this happening...Something along those lines. I think this was further heightened when Stefano didnt get a run in 1st grade particularly with some players leaving kept getting selected.
Was he ready? Maybe not. I watched a fair bit of wenty play this year and he wasn't outstanding, didnt particularly dominate but he did have good carries and was providing a nice 1-2 hitup combo with Mannah. Held his own against seasoned players in the canterbury cup. Definitely worth 15-20 mins in a couple games in 1st grade.
Endurance didn't appear to be a problem with nice long stints..maybe attitude..
Good luck to the kid. Heaps of potential.
