Sorry I’ll dumb it down. You “can” stipulate what the price is, but under a bunch of situations, the ATO and banks can also stipulate what the value is regardless of your thoughts. And they do this under things called laws. If you try to break these laws, that is illegal.
That sounds like mischaracterisation of somebody's argument. An obviously poor faith arguing tactic.
And very often expert opinion is passed off as fact, which is why the 'facts' always seem to benefit their political class.

Science is the ongoing attempted discovery of independent facts. Obviously in the courtroom a decision needs to be made by a deadline so the discovery is put to a vote. The nature of facts doesn't change though. The difference is what they mean.
