Thought we would keep him, we have no back up for the edge yet
Must be a money issue. Hes done everything asked of him once provided an opportunity. Im a huge Niukore fan but he looks far better suited to the middle. If Taka goes there isnt much left on the edge. BA even played Lane in the middle last week. It seems odd letting him go but I guess we have to trust theres a plan and arent prepared to pay overs for anyone.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we keep Taka, probably not a lot interest in the NRL for him and maybe super league not an option with COVID (has young family ).
Plus he can cover a few positions, which adds flexibility to the squad.

I hope he stays, but not for overs.

Agree, that we are thin on the edge. Lane Matto and Marata. Taka if you are desperate.

Let's hope that MarkyO has a few surprises for us.

I suspect Davey was on the Rookie contract for players 27-30 (is it $75-$80k per year?) in the squad and Manly have offered him a Minimum wage deal ($105k or something or other???).

This is all of the off-contracted players.
DAVEY
DAVIES
DUNSTER
GOWER
JENNINGS
SALMON
SMITH
STONE
TAKAIRANGI
TEREPO

In reality they're all worth between a Rookie and a Minimum wage deal at Parra, but not much more. They're probably worth more to some other clubs.

The ones that are happy to accept the Rookie/Minimum wage deal offer, then sign them up, the ones that aren't should be told to tell their story walking. I suspect we will keep half of them.

.

He wasn’t on a development contract this year.

I doubt it was a minimum contract offer, as if it was, pretty sure we would offer one too. We need to fill the squad with 30 players, and someone like Davey on a minimum wouId have been taken up by the club.

I reckon it’s a combination of, bit more then a depth money offer, a multi year contract and the better opportunity for a starting spot.

I didn't mean a development contract, they're the people outside the Top 30. There is some "rookie" contract for player 27-30 in the squad, it is less than the standard minimum wage.

I think he is probably worth a 1-year minimum year deal to us, if he can get more than he should take it.

Why would a bloke we haven't given a game to all season stay?

And

Why would we offer a bloke a contract who we haven't given a game to all season?
Because he doesn't have another offer, and, because we can't let everyone go. Anyway, I'm just hypothesising. I know f**k all about the inner workings of our recruitment. We are very light on in the second roe if Davey leaves
