Understand you have a personal dislike for the coach, I can tell you that O'Neil is responsible for the salary cap and player negotiations, BA is part of the committee , so you can spread your distaste around now.

I don't believe this.
Players are more loyal to coaches now than clubs. There is no way that the head coach isn't the most influential/important person in the room when it comes to who is signed and who is not signed.

He can’t coach yet has coached our team yet out of our last 4 seasons has a 4th, 5th and 3rd! Not bad for someone who isn’t a “coaches arsehole”

He also has coached 4 players to becoming origin quality players!

Not bad for a bloke who can’t coach :rolleyes:
I know you are old enough to remember but I agree he can coach but is a poor man’s Terry Fearnley.

I wouldn't be so sure. Depends on the context. If you're talking about re-signing your best player on an upgraded contract, and the coach says 'I want to build the team around this bloke.....get it done ever if over the odds' , well sure. But outside those decisions I don't see why the coach is driving the whol process and balancing the cap. He'd obviously have the ability to veto signings that he just doesn't want, but in determining how much to pay for players outside the absolute core I don't think the coach's role would be that dominant.

The point I was making and is valid, is that the salary cap and payments are not negotiated by BA, he obviously has targets and players he pushes for and quite rightly. He identified Junior, Lane, Fergo and Sivo at a time where we were bottom of the ladder and convinced them to come.

We now have a settled team and possibly the need to now fit players under the cap is even more a juggling act, I was making the observation that the final decisions are more collaborative than most think and to blame BA for everything is incorrect.

Personally, what he has done to overcome the disfunction of the old board and restructure the pathways is significant. Sure, there are things that could be done better, but he hasn’t had an Uncle Nick , Russell Crowe or dare I say it Gus to set things up. There appears to be a far more professional board and admin in place, and you will see how the restructure of pathways are now benefitting the club when the NRL and development squads for next season are revealed.

The pressure is now on to recruit players that add to the roster and replace those that have moved on, and also make changes in that benefit the coaching structure ( that’s my thinking).

As Delboy has stated, this is how I also understand it works.
Basically, BA and HoF talk about the kind of player and in some cases the actual player that BA thinks we need.
HoF does some talking with agents and brings options back.
The R&R Committee, which includes BA, HoF, and others talk about the options, how much to pay for each one and then HoF does the negotiations.

Is this a prediction that some juniors are going to come into first grade and be good?

I remember early in the season arguing that Moses deserved the NSW spot over Roger Ramjet. So he must have been in excellent form for a while. Wasn't he excellent up until the injury?

I see what you're doing with the Roger Ramjet reference. I thought that belonged in the other thread, with Blake's 7.

I couldn't do that job.
Reminds me of that footage of Steve Irwin when he lets an inland taipan come up and lick his face (that really happened and is on youtube. Craziest thing I've ever seen but still better than the bolded).

How can he be low hanging when so many in here put him up on such a pedestal???
Nobody puts him on a pedestal, we're just saying it's stupid to blame him for results. I reckon 2018 would've mostly been his fault, and it's good that he fixed it, but our finals losses under Arthur have just been bad luck; a case of coming up against better teams.

Dislike for the bloke??

lol I don’t even know him, I just don’t think he is a coaches arsehole and is now eating into our premiership window.

7 seasons and there is nothing I have seen from him or his coaching staff that instills any confidence in me that we will ever be a legitimate threat let alone winning a comp.

So O’Neill is Bea’s new scape goat??? And the BA signature Moneyball special move has been around longer the O’Neill has been here.

How many old washed up farts has he signed that offered us SFA while young blokes were let go or barely got a run???

Fa’sao, T Rex, Prichard, and even guys like Gower and De Gois we held onto far too long. And I don’t care who makes the final call but if the club signs a injury riddled bloke like Peats they aren’t serious they truly aren’t. Taking the Titans scraps lol.
The Titans have enough backup hookers. Why would they need Peats?

No, he was excellent last year. This year we played two games, a narrow win over the Dogs (where he did f**k all) and a flogging of the Titans, where he ran well but was overshadowed by Drown. Then Covid happened and he's been ordinary ever since.

Hmmm, the inductivist turkey in me suggests that maybe Moses caught Covid. Would explain a lot.
