He’d only be better off if he can command more than option in that 3rd year.
Right, and he possibly could. The player would think it more likely than not. And if it turns out he's worth less than the option then the club isn't going to activate it. There is no upside for the player with a club option.
You could theoretically have the mutual option but why bother? Just negotiate a new contract
There is a mutual option that is sometimes used but it only requires either party (rather than both) to activate it.

I am hearing that Haze Mk II will probably be the next centre BA picks into FG. Wants Marata back on the bench asap and no timeline on Waqa being fit to return. Penisini needs another year to improve defence in reggies, whereas Haze Mk II is ready now.
Looking at his stats, it seems defence is his best quality. Understandable that most of his nine NRL games were at centre.

Nrown can clearly see that 3rd he is at risk of not performing at the level he is now and given his suitors are drying up even if we gave him the 3rd year as a club option, why would we raise the price on the first 2 years?
Because a club option is something the player is giving to the club, so he will expect something in return. That something in return is extra money during the non-option years.

Not in this case. My point has been bastardised into me being super pro club options for some reason. I believe, backed by evidence, that the club, Nrown and others view that 3rd year as a massive risk, so with his suitors drying up, any 3rd year we offer would probably be only at our behest and advantage. If that’s not acceptable to Nrown then it’s no skin off our nose, take the 2 years originally offered then.

Would somebody bookmark this please?
Well he might become better in the future but right now he's a reserve grader while Blake has participated in 66 NRL wins.

WPYSA18
Blake: 7.8
Perham: 0.8

By the time Blake was Hayze Perham's age he had won five times as many games as Hayze Perham.

The channel nine commentary team were talking about Marata. Mainly Fittler. Saying he’s done an outstanding job on the right edge. Saying it looks more settled and Marata deserves his spot over waqa. Hard to argue with that
Easy to overrate a centre when his forwards are winning the middle and his team has all the ball. How did Niukore go against the Dragons when he had no help pushing from the inside?

Hughes hasn't 'stepped up', he has been playing fourth fiddle to Smith/Munster/Papenhuyzen. Now with Smith gone, Hughes is still the least important member of the Melbourne spine. Do you think he would do anything to solve Brisbane's problems? He's at the Storm because he's good enough and cheap enough to fit into the rest of the team.

Which is still better then what Croft was for Melbourne or do you think you know better then Bellyache?

What? Bellyache has a salary cap to deal with, same as every other coach. Sometimes you don't sign/keep the best player at every position, because they don't all fit under the cap. Do you think he let Cronk go because he didn't rate him? ffs merkin

I’m with Pou. I haven’t given up on Waqa Blake yet. A lot of people had written off Sivo last season and look how he’s going now. Waqa Blake has shown he has plenty of ability if he gets his game right and should be given a chance to see if he can go back to being the try scoring, line breaking centre he can be.
