Rumours and Stuff

How much is Hastings potentially worth though? I reckon $500k+ and even at his worst he is a first grader worth $200k-$300k. If more than one club agrees with figures similar to this it's easy for them to bid his price up. He could find himself signing for $500k or more, maybe not for 2017 but certainly in later years of a multi year contract.

Is Hastings at $500k better value than Hunt at $700k (my estimates)? While I think Hastings is potentially a better player than Hunt, he is still unproven as a first grade half (though a 20 year old halfback with 30+ games is a low risk option). He also has the stench of disruption around him. That's his only downside but it is significant.

No way should we touch Hastings if he wants $500k. Way to much risk!!

But I don't reckon any club would be offering him $500k either. Wasn't Green rumoured to sign with Manly for $350k p/a? If so, while Hastings may have more potential, I doubt clubs would offer him more then what green is rumoured to be on. And I reckon a few clubs would have been interested in green.

Oh course it's all about what the market is willing to pay and that can be anything.

500K for a fringe player that hasn't really broken at NRL level yet?

Or am I missing something where he's played a lot of games? It's entirely possible.. I need to borrow RLW47's mags..
Ask yourself two questions:
1. How much is he potentially worth over the course of the next contract?
2. How many clubs would be desperate enough to pay for potential?

I think Hastings is already as good as Blake Green. Plus he's younger so less likely to miss games through injury, and far more likely to improve during the contract's duration.

As Josh was saying, there's no way WE should sign up Hastings for $500k, given Gunco. Other clubs can do what they like. If he's available next season and Gunco doesn't work, or works too well, in halves, then maybe, but we shouldn't go chasing players until we determine needs

I'll tell you why clubs are steering away from Hastings, he's got a merkin attitude... I don't think the kid comes with glowing references..
he might have to spend a season in Wyong before he moves clubs.

I agree, was just making a point to Hindy111 who assumed something was wrong with Hasting as he was being released, but didn't make same assumption with Hunt.

It is more Hasting apparently is a bit of a dickhead.....At his age not to many clubs are going crazy for him. He was signed on over I guess for his age but I doubt he is on anything over 250K

Hunt was more then likely signed on overs and Bennet doesn't think he is worth the money or he think he can use Milford more and Nikorima while bolstering his forward pack. One dominant half + better forward pack.
Hunt would have to be on 400-500K at Brisbane. Yes people want to go on about Brisbane dollars. But its not like the side they have is full of stars. Lot of very good players in there but also a lot I have not heard of.

You reckon the Chooks would rather pay him to play for Wyong than subsidise a move away or are they calling his bluff? I reckon he's on about $400k. He could stay at the Chooks next year and get all of it but it would hurt his value for 2018. He might be better off taking zero payout (if that's all they're offering) and signing elsewhere for 2017 on a reduced one year deal and trust his form to be good enough by the mid season feeding frenzy to get a big contract for 2018 and beyond.

Hastings is absolutely the player most likely to move before next year, but who needs a halfback? If his relationship with the Dragons is f**ked that leaves only Parra, and because of Gutherson we're not desperate. Maybe because of his utility value he could sign anywhere, but coming off the bench isn't really going to boost his price either. Has Slater re-signed at Melbourne? If not he could end up there.

Slater expects to be ready for round 1 next year, with Munster moving to 6. Hastings best bets would be us or the Storm.

Mass exodus from the Titans but I still reckon they have the core of a decent team. They have 2 very good middle forwards in James and Passi. Quite possibly the next NSW 9 in Peats as well as Ash Taylor at 7 and Hayne at 1. The big question is who will be their centre and wingers
