If des goes what happens to Hopoate contract. Surely the new coach wont want a player who doesn't want to play Sunday's
Thats not Hoppa's fault, he signed a contract with that clause in it. We all remember how Parra got bagged and the Dogs were applauded for being a progressive and modern club??? Good old Raaaaaaay- lene and Des were lauded as some geniuses, well it's turned out great for them.

Right, so just on the "you can win a comp with shit halves" argument. Here are all the winning halves since 2000:

2016 – Maloney and Townsend (Sharks)
2015 – Morgan and Thurston (NQ)
2014 – Keary and Reynolds (Souths)
2013 – Maloney and Pearce (Roosters)
2012 – Widdop and Cronk (Storm)
2011 – Foran and Cherry-Evans (Sea Eagles)
2010 – Hornby and Soward (Dragons)
2009 – Won’t put Storm in here for fear of being roasted
2008 – Lyon and Orford (Sea Eagles)
2007 – Wont put Storm in here for fear of being roasted
2006 – Lockyer and Perry (Broncos)
2005 – Marshall and Prince (Tigers)
2004 – Sherwin and Anasta (Bulldogs)
2003 – Campbell and Gower (Panthers)
2002 – Fittler and Wing (Roosters)
2001 – Andrew Johns and Sean Rudder (Knights)
2000 – Ikin and Walters (Broncos)

You can argue that some of these players have been shit during periods of their career but how many of them were shit during the year that they won?

Realistically, only Shane Perry and perhaps Sean Rudder (although I reckon Knights fans would argue otherwise).

Plenty of those blokes were average. They just looked good in a good team. I think you need one half who goes well, and we have Norman. The other dude only needs to be as good as Chad Townsend, or in some cases Perry/Rudder.

True, but you appear to be assuming that our current forward pack is no good. Why?

I reckon our pack is great but add graham and it's almost the best. Our edge forwards are pretty bloody good but our props are more tradesman like, adding graham just gives the middle a bit more class. Plus his ball playing adds to our attack.

Graheme is past it. And agree with POU.

It is a bit like American footy. There are serviceable QB who you can build a game plan around.Peyton was ranked one of the bottom QB's last season via QBR ranking and touchdown/interceptions yet Denver won it.

Plenty of those guys where just average players. That had perhaps good seasons.

A lot of quality halves just like Norman, obviously a lot depends on how Gutherson goes, but our combo is potentially as good as a lot of those combos.

Gutherson is currently Perry/Rudder, but can Norman be Lockyer/Johns?

Who knows? Maybe Gutherson will continue to develop and he doesn't need to be.

How many on that list are Lockyer/Johns standard? Maybe 1 or 2? (apart from the actual Lockyer & Johns of course)

Edited cause I don't proof-read any damn thing.

My point was that Gutherson is currently about as good as Rudder and Perry. They are probably the two worst players on the list and to win they had to play with two of the best on the list (Lockyer and Johns).
