The Parramatta Eels are pleased to announce that Michael Ennis and Paul McGregor will be joining the coaching staff as consultants for Season 2022.

Michael and Paul had long and successful careers as players, Paul spent seven years as head coach of St George Illawarra and Michael has most recently spent time with Canberra as part of their coaching staff.

Both men bring a wealth of football knowledge and experience and will no doubt be valuable additions to our team.
Positive move.

On Papalii does anyone think he will have the same impact next year?

I don't. I think he will continue to perform at the level he did in the second half of this year - good but not great.
Yep, we shouldn't read too much into a fantastic half season. He needs to show some consistency before we should be expecting him to be an elite forward every week.

No issues at all for mine. Mary is also part of Freddie's NSW set up I see. I think Ennis could be an excellent addition for Mahoney/Roache etc.

Very happy with the Ennis appointment. Seems to have thorough knowledge of the game and well spoken on fox

Now if we lose RCG, Niukore and Papalii all in 2023, which is very likely
Why is that likely? More likely is that we will lose one or two because we can't keep them all. That doesn't mean we can't keep any of them. We already have a lot of money tied up in forwards, possibly too much, which could be the change our team needs to go to the next level.

They are consultants, not assistants so again no threats to Bea. Even though I think Ennis working with Mahoney can only be a positive and a lure to keeping Reed. As for Mary?? Meh!!
Its change and different voices. Im really pleased. Estatic actually. I really hope BA embraces their input. Not sure why I mention that but I always wondered if he and Joey were on the same page. Roll on the new season.

Two merkins ready to take Arthur's job. Or are they coming to take Kidwell and Murphy's jobs? It's very exciting.
I suspect Mary has probably worked out that being an assistant is probably the better option for him going forward. The more he gets to provide the more valuable he will be.

Ennis I suspect, like Sterlo 30 years before him, knows that it's a safer option to stick with his gig at Fox Sports...except Ennis has a greater work ethic than Sterlo and knows he can supplement that gig by helping out the highest bidder on the side - plus commuting to the middle of Sydney is easier than getting to Canberra!

Am I the only one who think people are operating RCG? Yes he is good. But plenty of excellent props. And as I said before, why are people expecting him to play like he did this year in 2024 onwards? Props have a shelf life. He might be cooked by then
He's certainly no elite attacking prop. His biggest contribution for us is his defence.
