not sure why the anyone is assuming the dogs will be better then us in 2023………

Their big forward signings are hardly known as hard workers in defence…..

And their spine is still below average….Mahoney is good, but Burton is an unknown as a half. He killed it at centre but there is a lot more required at 5/8 and will be very inexperience, who will be half or fullback? Their 2022 options aren’t exactly great ….They won’t have much to spend their either…

Additionally they are trying to offload their best metre maker back in cotric putting more pressure on their big forward signings…

Finally most of Gus big external signings at the panthers never worked out that great and some of his long term contracts have ended in tears …he is good at setting up “pathways” but…

While Barrett is the coach….

Keep hoping.
Why would I hope we get the spoon?? As a long suffering fan and let’s face it we all know no matter how bad team the goes our weak as piss board will be backing the bald plodder to the hilt so there is absolutely no upside for us to win yet another spoon.

The life of an Eels fan to be forever disappointed.

Burton left because he wanted to play in the halves not happening at Penrith
Kiks left for the 800k. But more importantly a 4 year deal he will be 31 in the last year
Penrith could not match price or 4 years

As I understand Burton is in a 2yr deal with a 3rd option. So he can negotiate come November 2022. I reckon 1.1

This will be the issue for them. He will want the dollars and Roosters will be looking at same time as will Broncos and Dolphins.

Would be funny now if we got Cotric with the dogs picking up a substantial part of his contract as they desperately need the cap space….

We will end up benefiting anyway wherever Nikola goes. If he comes to us we will get him for $300k. If he doesn’t and he goes to Canberra, Simonssen will be released early and sign for the $250k mark.

We shouldn’t be letting Papa / Marata / Mahoney leave in 2022.

However what if we offered Mahoney to the dogs for a Cotric swap. Cotric wouId be on a lot more then Mahoney, but dogs pick up the difference and some of his 2023 contract…..

We then pick up Hodgson from the Raiders for 2 years (Raiders wouId need to cover some of his contract). It gives us 2 years to find a hooker. Plus Hodgson can play a ball playing lock role to, which has been important under the new rules.

I know it sounds stupid, but our side lacks a bit of “smarts” in the spine ….and a old warrior like Hodgson is probably what we need. Look at what Ennis did for the Sharks when they won the comp. a lot doubted the signing but it ended being great and a big factor in them winning the comp…

additionally we get an origin quality back…and a lot of experience…

Why not just buy Api? He is younger and would suit our team more than that slow Pom.

It’s not an option for 2022….

but mainly because it doesn’t include getting an origin quality back…

Don’t underestimate Hodgson ability even with his age…still a smart competitive player
