weren't many complaining that our fitness looked shit when we went into a lull mid last season?

I'm not saying anything either way with elkin .... I suspect he does a good job - but we still seem off the pace at times .... maybe psychological unfitness?
Better in mid-season than at year end like Storm who struggled and then lost prelim final after dominating most of the season.

Can’t believe we payed overs for a guy who’s almost 30 that’s doesn’t suit the faster game. FFS!! 🥸
Who's the next priority for 2023 ?

2022
Utility: Perham (23), Russell, Tuipulotu^
Fullback: Gutherson
W/C: Blake, Dunster (23), Loizou (20)^, Naiduki (22), Opacic (28), Penisini, Simonsson, Sivo
Half: Arthur (20), D.Brown, Moses
Hooker: Mahoney (24)
Edge forward: Cartwright, Lane, Matterson (28), Niukore (26), Papali'i (24)
Tight forward: N.Brown, Campbell-Gillard, Greig (23), Hollis, Kaufusi (23), Makatoa (29), Paulo (29), Rodwell (23)^, Stone (25)

So with Paulo staying, and considering we still have some decent cap space to spend, is 2023 really a rebuilding year?
Depends what happens with Drown/Matto and to lesser extent Sivo.
Swapping player for same positional player at similar price tag isn’t a rebuild I.e. Mahoney for Hodgson. It’s a gamble that the new player will bring a better result. (My take there is Hodgson has a higher ceiling than Mahoney but also a way lower floor. Not quite a Sandow hit-and-hope signing but along the same lines.)
Replacing Niukore/Papali’i won’t be a rebuild, simply because the cap space isn’t massive.
Matto alone doesn’t necessarily make it a rebuild either because we’d probably just be looking for 3 forwards to replace 3 forwards.
But if Drown were to leave on top of that, then perhaps it allows a small rebuild between the 5/8th & edge forward positions.
A full rebuild wouldn’t be possible without moving on other recently contracted top 13 players

Did I miss Dunster and Drown signing/taking option somewhere?

Sivo don’t reckon is a huge loss, reckon he is replaceable with what we have (Dunster/Bailey and co) and saves us cap space.

Definitely want to keep Matterson, however I reckon keep Drown is the key.

Drown wouId be the hardest to replace (But JA has potential). The rest are replaceable.

Great news with Paulo staying. I think we have done well with our re-signings. With have plenty of experience. I’d say Dylan Brown has more than likely exercised his option for 2023 or we would have heard rumours or the relentless speculation about him leaving.

The interest in Bevan French is surprising. Where would he fit in? Isn’t he a 6 now?

Despite their concussion history I think Kaufusi and Matterson would be the priority. I would however be making sure Rodwell is re signed.
