Inglis too. High quality versatile teenage backs, no matter what their preferred position, often debut and play on the wing while getting accustomed and experience playing in the NRL, especially when a club has an established quality player already playing in the preferred position.

It's not all that hard or mysterious to figure out guys.

Russell came into first on the wing which we all think is a good move the question is why is he playing reserved grade also on the wing..

I think someone mentioned once that Dylan wasn't all that excited about footy in general when he was playing, so maybe that's what people are picking up on when he's interviewed. But that's not a bad thing if true and doesn't seem to affect his efforts on the field.

I suppose the smart answer would be to get him proficient with all the nuances both in defense and attack since it seems that that will be the main position that he will be used in when playing in the NRL for the next season or two at least if he stays at our club.

He will probably have to bide his time to play either centre or fullback in our NRL team and besides if he had to fill in there on the odd occasion, he has played in both enough in the lower grades to cover in emergency situations.

No the smart answer is the club has no idea how to develop our juniors if they dont make the leap straight into first grade..

That seems to be a 'todays' player kind of thing. They all think that they are too cool for cats. They all pride themselves on telling us that they don't know who Elvis or the Beetles are or that we are old or that they are so indifferent about anything that may pigeon hole them and deter from their mystique.

They are all so fluid and transitorily young and beyond hipster, which is so so last century.

But give them time and the majority come around to value much of what all humanity has always valued, even if they won't admit it, including the growth in their love of the game that they worked so hard and sacrificed so much to be part of and can see all the great things that it has given them on and off the field.

Rugby League, maker of better men not iffy Gen Zs.

I think the OP point wasn’t that Russell was playing wing in 1st grade, but that he was also playing wing in reserves and if he’s seen as a potential long term fullback, he should probably get some game time there

Well I wasn't just thinking about Brown when I wrote my novella, but on Brown, when he first came to prominence he did say something about becoming a millionaire by playing RL, so maybe he puts a lot more weight on money then he does loyalty? Not that he would be alone in that way of thinking. So unless we have a real point of difference as a club, culture and environment that he can't easily replicate or better, he may find it a lot easier to walk, even if the money isn't all that different but better elsewhere. Or at the very least do a Gutho and squeeze the crap out of us to get the very top dollar for him to stay.

As for my overall feeling about the club and why we can't seem to wrap up players before they have the option of going to market? Well I have in other posts written about our lowball offers and snail pace Football Managers tactics that all but guarantees that players will test the market and must give their managers a massive hard on in the process.

This latest post is just another musing that may also play a small or significant part in a players overall feelings about our once mighty club. Who knows I could be way off? But something tells me I mightn't be. Just my wise old owl feeling I suppose. I think dismiss these possibilities is very naïve and narrow minded. There are many reasons why players sign or don't sign. The best clubs just try to minimise all the negative ones so as to leave very few for players to think about that will deter them from signing with them while they maximise the all the positive ones that encourage players to sign with them. Are we one of the latter clubs?

The new Bears of the NRL.

I don't know much about Russel. Is he rated that high inside the club? I mean Penisini certainly is and is a regular nrl player.
I think Russel looks OK. But will he dislodge Simmonson or Sivo? Also Dunster will be back in 2023. If Russel is anything special he should overtake all the players. At this point he is a 20yld with some future. How high is just a guess. If he was an elite talent I would imagine he would be a regular very soon. At this point however he is behind Opacic and then Sivo. I expect those two to trade places shortly.

Speaking of Haze any word how his recovery is going?

True. Except they may see him as a winger for the next 2 seasons and want him to learn the position.
I agree he should be at fullback. If Gutherson goes down I would rather him move there then a reshuffle

Lucky they all get paid the same no matter who the coach is.
It will be interesting how all of them go in new systems that will also be under brand new coaches and if they fit the style of what the new coach wants.

Marata will be interesting how many players have gone to the warriors from a Australian based club and actually improved in the past 10 years. Wouldn't be many.

Definitely. I agree play him on wing as at the moment if he’s getting call up, that’s where it’ll be (although with Sivo also back & the current backline going ok perhaps it’s less of a given?)

Lodge was going okay, and the idiots let him go, if brains were dynamite the Warriors would struggle to put out a candle
