Rumours and Stuff

Yes agree. Unless they don't see Russel as good enough s a fullback and told him needs to learn on the wing as only spot may make it. No idea.
Hayne started off as a winger, while he learnt the trade from Wade McKinnon, Joel Reddy and Luke Burt.

Will be easy enough for Russell to make the transition... probably just that Russell has the speed and versatility to cover wing and fullback, while Rankin is more a spine/central type of player (fullback/halves)?

Hayne was special.

They always talk about going back to Reggie's and work on stuff.

We don't have a winger shortage anymore so someone should be learning the trade at 1

Any Combo with JA in the spine starting somewhere is gross, he’s not up to first grade ATM. Let him learn his trade in reserve grade like the majority of young halves. It’s absolute BS he’s he only back up half in the top 30.

not even sure him gaining experience will be enough for him to have an nrl career in the halves.

Brown not invested in parramatta in my opinion can definitely see him moving on with many others, for whatever reason we are not a club which players necessarily want to play for,

It feels that way doesn't it. Maybe because we have that North Sydney Bears stink about us? Or Maybe because of the average coaching staff we have that many of our players aren't all that impressed with. Not saying they don't like them or even really like them as really nice and caring guys, but they know they are just ok at their jobs and that there are equal or much better options out there? Our coach may not talk to players(joke) but players talk to player from all clubs. So if the price is right, then a move isn't such a bad thing.

I think it is a bit of both. If we had a great coach, then the mood and feel around the place would automatically be different and a lot more optimistic all the time creating a fever of desire to be a part of and something that you may not get at another clubs environment. Same could be said if we have a better history of actually winning a premiership once or twice a decade. The belief and therefore the optimism would be much more tangible and real. When you haven't won a thing in 36+ years it has to have left a negative impact on the psyche of the club and the players that play for it whether its spoken about or not. It's just like an unseen intangible blanket ever so slightly smothering the place that you can't actually put your finger on, but it's there weighing down on everyone just that little bit. That doubt.

Sure the players that are at the club at any given time would love to win it and break the duck egg, but in the back of their mind some would see it as a real issue that may last their whole career and they may never ever(Hindmarsh) win a premiership no matter how many great players or teams they play with or in at the club. The club to some maybe cursed and so sure they enjoy playing there and have some great mates there too, but in the back of their minds it keeps gnawing at them that it may never actually happen and so when a slightly higher offer comes in, one that if they were playing at club with a better record in particular, they think well the money is better and this other club may actually deliver even if it is a lower placed club at the time because at least they have shown they have won it in my lifetime.

Being able to win premierships fosters great loyalty and many players have shown that they will forgo a little cream in a deal to achieve premiership success and to also have a better chance at representative honours. All our club has shown over a hell of a long time is that it can't deliver on the premierships no matter what they have done, and unless you are basically the outright best in your position, will find it very difficult to make consistent rep honours as well. These things matter to a lot of players, no matter what they say publically.

Inglis too. High quality versatile teenage backs, no matter what their preferred position, often debut and play on the wing while getting accustomed and experience playing in the NRL, especially when a club has an established quality player already playing in the preferred position.

It's not all that hard or mysterious to figure out guys.

You'd have to think N.Brown will be sacked soon along with Holbrook and McGuire. I just can't see these guys lasting the next month.
Saints coach could also be on the chopping block. He will see out the season. I reckon atleast 3 more coaches will be sacked this season along with Barrett leaving.

What has Brown done or said that makes you think he is not invested in the club? There's no reference to it your novella above. It's just a tirade about the club.

So if warriors & Tigers sack there coaches.

Marata, Reed & Papali'i will be leaving to 3 different clubs all under a different coach to when they signed the contract.

Well I wasn't just thinking about Brown when I wrote my novella, but on Brown, when he first came to prominence he did say something about becoming a millionaire by playing RL, so maybe he puts a lot more weight on money then he does loyalty? Not that he would be alone in that way of thinking. So unless we have a real point of difference as a club, culture and environment that he can't easily replicate or better, he may find it a lot easier to walk, even if the money isn't all that different but better elsewhere. Or at the very least do a Gutho and squeeze the crap out of us to get the very top dollar for him to stay.

As for my overall feeling about the club and why we can't seem to wrap up players before they have the option of going to market? Well I have in other posts written about our lowball offers and snail pace Football Managers tactics that all but guarantees that players will test the market and must give their managers a massive hard on in the process.

This latest post is just another musing that may also play a small or significant part in a players overall feelings about our once mighty club. Who knows I could be way off? But something tells me I mightn't be. Just my wise old owl feeling I suppose. I think dismiss these possibilities is very naïve and narrow minded. There are many reasons why players sign or don't sign. The best clubs just try to minimise all the negative ones so as to leave very few for players to think about that will deter them from signing with them while they maximise the all the positive ones that encourage players to sign with them. Are we one of the latter clubs?

The new Bears of the NRL.
