Rumours and Stuff

Players and clubs can negotiate at anytime, they are free to offer/sign contracts at anytime. The only clause in the standard NRL contract that could deny it being binding (in addition to other general contract law) is under Registration where it says along the lines “this agreement is subject to NRL approval”.

The power of approval by NRL rests in the agreement between the NRL and the NRL team franchise/club. That agreement doesn’t actually expressly deny clubs contracting players from other clubs, but it sets out timeframes for when the NRL will consider approving new contracts, that being usually the earlier of 12 months prior to contract ending or being provided consent by current employer.

It also grants them the power to investigate clubs/players where they believe attempting to circumvent salary cap rules or tampering with the operations of other franchises has occurred. Then there is also similar agreements between NRL and player agents/players.

So as I said we can do whatever the f**k, but NRL has veto power, and then it possibly has other consequences.

But hey I guess unless you really thought about it then it all wouldn’t make sense, but now if you read my post you maybe able to understand the technical nuances.

Where did you find the source of the info that that the agreement b/w NRL and the clubs doesn't expressly deny clubs contracting players from other clubs etc?

I'm pretty sure that (under the NRL Rules / agreements) clubs cannot make a formal offer to a player until the last 12 months of their current deal, but are free to talk to / negotiate with players at any time. This is why the Warriors backed off fast when they approached Dylan Brown a few years back (they got his contract end date wrong).

Hindy’s birds told me. The same bird who told me this could very well be a massive talking point before start of next season.
Like my schooling of you the other day, it’s more a technicality, that the NRL take a very dim view of being abused from both a “good of the game” perspective, and to avoid clubs/players being exposed to legal issues if the NRL refuse registration. So in practice, we have “can’t make an offer before <insert date>”, mostly because it pisses the NRL off

If he's a free agent, I'm guessing he could still join another club....not sure of the deadline for that.
Yeah guess you’re right there, although clubs had deadline to fill squad, so any club looking to add him would have to cut players maybe? Or show enough injuries to play him as outside cap player?

This Klemmer situation seems strange. You have to ask what is really going on there.
I think I read somewhere he gave Hadyn Knowles the trainer a hell of a spray around the 70th minute... maybe it continued into the privacy of the change rooms after fulltime?

At least despite our perceived brittleness against all but two top teams, we're in the 8... being a part the Newcastle squad and staring at another year or two there without improvement must make some guys want to do anything they can to leave?

Doesn't surprise me Klemmer has always been a petulant twat who has a small shelf life at clubs. People can only put up with his whinging antics for so long.

NSW blackmarked him because he rocked up to camp with the shits for being 19th man waiting for Tariq Sims judiciary verdict. Should have been grateful to be in camp that's why i think Gutho gets called in every year must be a good team man in camp.

But surely he understands that what was promised to him is remaining at Newcastle until the end of next season. If he wants that to change then the remuneration will also have to change.

Even if he was happy to take a pay cut, it doesn't mean that it will be big enough to make it attractive to both clubs.

But he can also just hang on and get paid....he's just as likely to have a new coach next year.

Like I said, we can't put a new contract under his nose until 2024. The rest of your malarkey is just that. Remember what happened to the Warriors when they tried to sign Dylan Brown, before the 12 months prior to the end of his then existing contract?

Not allow dude, no matter how smart you want to sound, which by the way you don't.
