I didn’t make this account to bring up Doorey btw, had it for a while, i just had never messaged with it. I usually go on all the other teams forums on here sometimes and read. Dogs forum is the kennel in which is where i chat lots more. Just thought i would say something, don’t know why you guys seem to be mad that i said something just because I don’t support the eels.

Its fine. Buzz article was ridiculous. Doorey is not a rubber stamped NSW future player like he suggests. He may ot even be a NRL starting player.

I like having discussions with other fans. Also with Mahoney I am interest to see how the dogs go. Part of me think top 5. But sometimes I wonder if a lot of their signings are also overhyped. I'm a huge Burton fan. But unsure again if he will reach potential or opposition will work ways to shut him down etc. Issue I have with him is doesn't seem able to control a game but rather flashes of brilliance.
Be good to see the Dogs and Tigers strong again imo.

How and why does the NRL allow the dogs to sign 32 players?
You only have to have the right number by certain dates. At least 28 by November, 29 by March or whatever. I assume the thirty player limit isn’t enforced until sometime closer to season kickoff.

I’d say every team in the comp would be aiming for top eight at least. It’s not a high bar.

Brisbane I think could explode next season. Yes they faded this year. But its a highly talented squad and all these kids get a bit more NRL under their belt. You need a good 3 or 4yrs to become that finished product and some of their guys where rookies while many only into 2nd or 3rd year.
Once they find that mental toughness they are going to be a very good football side. I feel they are the side that could do the Panthers next season.

Need another coach I reckon.

Kevvie isn't the answer and there to keep the old boys at bay.

The board will flick him if things goes pear shape.

You know what lads a lot of you complain that we never bring in young talent or have no young talent in the squad look at the blokes we've signed players that are only going to improve and all of them are cheap. I like how the clubs approached losing all these players. When we bring in Taupau also I think we're pretty much set. I was speaking to my mate that is a die-hard Newcastle fan and he is hugely disappointed in losing Momoisea, reckons it highlights how poorly Newcastle is being run. Also really like the signing of Doorey he looks like he has plenty of potential and if Barrett is recommending him he must see something in him. The team I'd be picking is a team of:
  1. Gutherson
  2. Sivo
  3. Simonsson
  4. Penisini
  5. Dunster
  6. Brown
  7. Moses
  8. Campbell-Gillard
  9. Hodgson
  10. Paulo
  11. Lane
  12. Murchie
  13. Matterson
  14. Doorey
  15. Hopgood
  16. Taupau
  17. Momoisea
May not look as strong as our 2022 side but I honestly think it has the potential to be better. The forward pack is mobile and strong and Doorey, Hopgood, Momoisea, and Murchie haven't reached their potential yet at all. Also, think the addition of Barrett as an assistant is a master stroke by the club. BA will get the best out of a lot of these young blokes and I'm kind of excited to see what happens in 2023.

Of course Dogs fans will laugh at Doorey. He has left. Had he been resigned it would be a different opinion. And I know plenty in 2021 saw him as a main stay in their top 17 moving forward. 2022 was ruined by injury.
And we are the same with Mahoney. We are all down playing the loss of Reed.
Just the way the human mind works.

Who knows. I for one haven't minded our signings at all. Lot of them are cheap so low risk but if they shine then you have to start giving credit to our recruitment and coaching for being able to identify the needs to a succesfull squad and talent spotting.
Sometimes I feel it's just throwing darts. Some hit and some miss.

I am concerned about what I feel is a weak area. Our backs.

Forwards lost Papali'i, Stone,Marata,Kafusi and probably Brown. Only 3 of them where in our best 17 on a regular basis.
We've added Murchie,Hopgood,Doorey,Moimisea so it's possible they improve and fill those guys lost. And add the fact 1 or 2 juniors may spring up.

Hodgson takes Mahoneys spot. And even tho our backs are all there I feel we need another powerful runner of the ball.
Plenty of time for that to happen still. Also wouldn't mind a utility.

You know who would be a good fit for a big explosive back? Marzhew he'd be the exact kind of back we need I reckon. Imagine our sets starting with both Sivo and Marzhew. Teams would be scrambling to tackle Sivo and then the next tackle Marzhew winds up. It would definitely get our sets going. Pretty sure Marzhew is able to negotiate atm as well.

He makes Waqa look like Trevor Gillmeister in defence though

Well, some of the forums might say top 50% is a high bar, since only 50% of team can achieve it in any one season... #poupoustatsetc
But each team only cares about where they finish, not where the other 15 teams finish. They don’t care if eight other teams miss the finals. It’s far worse if only seven other teams miss the finals.
