He now has about 5 backrowers who are average plodders
Who? The only average plodder is Davey. Otherwise there's Matterson and Lane who are either Origin class or close, and then a couple of cheap backups (Murchie and Doorey) and Mataele who is not even top 30.

So Preston Campbell was the "x-factor" fullback option we were trying to secure... and missed out?

So glad we missed out. Imagine moving our best player and captain who is on around $800-900K from his best position and sticking him where? Centre where he is average in speed and penetration or what 5/8th and then piss off our current 5/8th so he exercises his get out clause and skedaddles.

Wow the brains trust don't really think these things through or just don't have a clue. Hopefully we now come to our senses and focus on a slashing specialist centre or winger and stop trying to create a Dragon's/Tigers type of mess. They are white anting their own here.

Honestly, bloody idiots!

Yep, hopefully the nonense we leaked/ran through the media about x-factor and Gutho shifting position can die for this season, and we can just concentrate on trying to fix our season with what we've got.

Main issue is the Simonssen/Blake/Dunster/Russell side leaking points, and the dummy half situation, and forward bench rotations - made worse when we're missing just one of first choice forwards (Matterson when he opted for suspension, Lane when injured, Paulo on suspension, RCG through injury....)

Mate his tackle efficiency is a tick over 91%. About the norm for many front rowers. Including both our starting props. The only freak is Haas who is just over 99%. Most other front rowers are at 95% or lower. Many in the low 90's.
It’s quantity and coverage that’s the problem. Good opponents target the gaps in our middle with speed. Lodge won’t help that

Thats great but its when he misses the 9% which needs to be looked at...

People say Matto is a top defender but this season teams have scored from his lazy marker defense.

We need a front rower who will come on and knock players over. Hopefully not our own...

We should get rid of RCG then because his tackle efficiency is lower at 90.8%. I don't think you realise that many quality props have low 90's efficiency rate. It is the exception that are over 95%. That is part of why Haas is a freak who sits at 99% and averaging 194 running metres. They are unheard of figures.

But remember we just need Lodge to keep the status quo while he is on replacing one of our other 2 boppers. But like I said, I prefer 4 genuine front rowers to be always in the starting 17. It then gives us real power and we can sustain the power game that Potato Head is always searching for. The rest of the team then will go up a gear or two and thrive. No more back foot pussies.

Look at South's and the Broncos who always have 4 props on rotation. Their backs usually have a holiday out there.

You didn't get my point...

Not really. It’s more that Lodge would be more of the same. That would just extend the problems we do have but not really improve what we do well to the same amount.
Maybe if Lodge reduced RCG/Paulo game time it’d work by allowing them to do same work over shorter period, but I think there’s a better balance with someone other than Lodge. Plus he’s a dick.

Does lodge bring the same as Barlo and Reg?

I don't think he is much of an upgrade to what we have on the bench.

Defence is poor?

He is safe under the high ball.
He is the leading tryscorer in the NRL.
He has improved his defensive reads x 10 in the last 12 months.

Sure he could return the ball harder, but he brings 3 players in to tackle him every time.
Least of our issues at the moment.
yep - 3 in the tackle and the massive fijian gets man handled and get the slowest play the ball ever and sets the tone for our set of six.

would have to be one of the laziest attacking wingers in the game.

2023 Lane is nowhere near Origin class.

Hopefully he gets his mojo back as the season progresses but so far he seems to have followed his pattern if good seasons followed by disappointing seasons... He has been inconsistent his whole career...

Style wise he’s a bit in between Paulo & RCG, but he’s not as good. He’s better than Makatoa but maybe not per dollar, and on potential Greig could surpass what he could offer next year.
Lodge for me doesn’t move the needle enough
