The joint is lacking discipline. This is obvious. The fact that our second highest paid player was even night clubbing during the bye round when the players collectively made a pledge to lay low tells me many things.
It tells me that familiarity with our senior leadership including the coach who is about to break Brian Smith’s record (I still can’t believe that) can breed contempt and in this case it can breed a lack of discipline and respect. If we had either of those the event over the weekend and todays antics at the press conference would never happen.
I don’t think it’s as bad as what you make it out and it will blow over pretty quick. It’s enough to derail whatever was left of our chances for top 6, but that’s about it. I don’t buy that it reflects a culture or discipline issue cos even the clubs that claim to have it all sorted, have these hiccups. All if them.
This charge is pretty low tier and from the peeps I have spoken to and the chances of conviction are super low. Simply due to inebriation (unreliability) of witnesses, poor lighting and CCTV.
I can’t hep but think that the media and the NRL would have treated this differently if it was a media darling club, but what can you do ?
We will just have to ride through the media pile on and the opportunistic sledging by thise who think it’s a club’s or coach’s responsibility to babysit these millionaires 24/7.
