Understanding the difference between these things is not separating them, it's understanding they are not the same thing even if they are inter-entwined.

And I have no need for excuses for poor lifestyle choices here, I simply reject your assertion that is the case.

You are simply looking for justification to assert your morality upon others, that's up to you of course, me I'll stick to not particularly caring about what consenting adults do with their bits

Because in a comparison in value of two players, one didnt play for you at all in 2023 and the other will play maybe a 1/3. Pretty simple.

What dollar value would you place on Ice's efforts for Parra in 2023?

Even if that were true, the contract value matters over the course of the entire contract, not just in individual years.

But there is no reason we would sign him at Tigers prices. We will have offered him what he is worth to us, not what he was worth to Wests when they signed him. If the player was unwanted then he likely negotiated a payout that suited him. Our offer is separate from that. His payout from the Tigers is to cover the difference in what he would’ve earned if he stayed vs what he will be getting at Parra.
