LOL Fitzy does Fitzy things....

this is the same guy who knocked back a request to sign Gene Miles he also thought he signed Jamie Ainscough only to find out that he signed Nathan Barnes! ....

definitely a club supremo but when it came to football matters he was absolutely clueless.

The missed player opportunities under Fitzy are nightmarish. So many 'what could have beens' and we might now be in double figures for NRL premierships.

Now under an equal salary cap grant for all teams it will be harder then ever to just buy yourself a title without attracting the best juniors to your club from around the country and or producing them through a vast and quality based nursery a la Panthers/Broncos.

Something that we keep saying that we have sorted out, but have no evidence to suggest we have for over 10 years now.

to be fair, we went all out during the SL war and spent 9 mill on players in 96 and then took advantage of the situation for a couple of years until the nrl clamped down on the cap rules when the war supposedly over...

I think we also had the opportunity to get under the guard of Gus and the roosters for Fittler but we backed away from it.

our last real Big Dick operator was Brian Smith and he at least had us within an ear shot several times.

we can probably do with someone like him now but he's been too long out of the game to entertain that thought now.

Things have started to change, given the Ball/Flegg teams have at least 10/12 players from QLD/NSW Country and NZ, and some decent locals too. Perhaps the review and the changes made since then are working.

It was too late by then. The rot had settled in well and truly by then. And as good as Smith was he wasn't a smart players coach and lost all real leaders under his watch and never could get a quality half at any of the clubs that he coached at for more then a year or so, before they would fail or leave. That is the number one reason why the guy never won a premiership.

Never having the best halves and the leader drain that would happen under his watch. He had/has a putrid personality and it cost him. He never learned to adjust it enough to be a premiership winner even though tactically he was up their with the best there ever was.

He knew Cayless was a yes man.

Its why he survived.

I hate saying it but Jamie Lyon would have been what Gutho is to us know if he stayed.

May i ask what the fallout would have been in 1987 if we punted Sterlo who had just won his 4th comp. For a little halfback in Ipswich no one had a clue about.

Not defending Fitzy but was Alfie to replace Sterlo or Kenny when both still had 3-4 years left at a time going to be a popular decision back then if it happened.

It's the Miles one for me. Best mates with Kenny and I would bet my right nut that if we had him in our team during those years, we would have one at least 1 or 2 more premierships.

He was up there with the best of the best. Add that caliber a player next to Pricey-Crow and Co and it gives us so much more firepower that I couldn't see even the cheating Dogs getting the best of us.

Just responding to your claim that it’s about time the club recruited from elsewhere. Don’t have a dog in the fight as like all of us, want success, just thought you would like to know there has been a change in junior recruitment.

Thanks. But I have heard it all before. I make my judgments on performance and outcomes.

We at Parra tend to talk big but deliver duck eggs that even a duck can't hatch.

Whatever that means.

No club has ever sorted it out. It takes consistent investment year after year. For example, we had strong juniors in 2017, right before Max Donnelly came in and cut costs. Then we had weak juniors right up until this year. We won't know if we have committed to this investment until we see the quality of our juniors next year and the year after and so on. But from looking at junior results over just the last few years, the NSWRL affiliated NRL clubs that are committed to spending money in this area are the Roosters, Knights and Panthers. Up until 2021 that included Manly as well.

Yep, you could go back every year for the past decade or more and usual suspects talking about our next bunch of amazing juniors.
