I think the difference might be that those other players you mention were already halves to begin with. Gutherson is an outside back. I hope he makes the transition.

12mths would be enough sample size to see if can cut it. Where did he play jnrs? I thought fullback. Burt did say last pre season Gutherson has the skills to play in halves. Halves these days are sometimes more game managers rather then silky skill playmakers. Lockyer was both.
Cronk also both leans more towards a game manager.
At worse Githerson will be ok. He can defend, supports well and can take on the line and pass. Heck most forwards can ball play now. Aslong as he doesnt force the ball and plays a restricted possesion style game and develops a bit of a kick i cant see an issue

That's a fair point. The difference also is that gutho is not having to be the dominant half. We still have Norman who should and will be in charge. I see gutho as needing to play a similar role to Michael Morgan. Time will tell, I just hope that if he plays poorly once or twice the knives don't come out.

I hear we are trying to get Nathan Peats back for season 2018. Shame it can't be this season.

Which club is set to make a play for a player they released early from their contract? Expect it to cost them a few more hundreds of thousands of dollars to attract the player back next year.

If It is Peats I hope the second part is not true because he was on good money prior to leaving. I heard about $300k to $400k.

If Ben Hornby can move into the halves successfully then I'm pretty confident that Gutherson can too.
If Gutherson makes it at 6 it will save us so much money and provide more funds for the retention of our squad beyond 2018. Taking established halves from other clubs costs big money as the Ben Hunt acquisition to the Dragons demonstrated.

Attracting a half like Ben Hunt to the Dragons is desperate money particularly what they have apparently offered him. He isn't a bad player but he isn't a player worthy of that much of a contract.

Gutherson had Robson as his halfback last year and still managed to play good football. With Norman he won't have to over play his hand. I am confident that this will work in our favour in the long term. However his versatility allows us to be active in the market for 2018.

I just hope we don't do anything stupid like trying to entice someone back like Peats for overs or even Hayne at his usual fee.

I can't see us paying massive overs considering our recent track record in negotiations. Then again, if he agrees to come back we possibly owe him a bit extra for the rissoling we gave him last year

Forwards.... Big strong forwards. Our backs are good enough. Last season our forward where average. They may of held own but mannah, wicks, terepo, alvaro are not intimidating.
Watch Matagi, brown and frank rev up team

Agreed. We had a chance to keep Peats. Lets not pay a shitload more than we previously did just to get him back.

Well, we were backed into a bit of a corner by the NRL when it came to keeping Peats. In hindsight it was the wrong move, but at the time it was the only way

We knew that f**knuckle Foran was having his issues but it might have been too hard to arsehole him at that point.

If Peats does want to live in Sydney then we would only have to pay to get him back what we would've had to pay to re-sign him anyway.
