Luai is definitely a good player.
Actually, he is a very good player. He has shined in the Penrith team and has been a huge part of their success. I don't want to diminish that in any way, because although he's a merkin, he has created a wonderful resume and had success that other player could only dream of.

However, when it comes to playing talent, I believe Brown has a higher ceiling that Luai does. His strength and speed would be above Luai's, and even though Luai has become a good defender, Brown has him covered in this area as well. Their long kicking games might be on par (i.e. not all that great), but maybe Brown's short kicking game is slightly better.

On-field smarts, you'd have to give it to Luai at this stage. He has a lot more experience though, and Dylan has the chance to do a lot better in this area.

Leadership? I saw some have laughed at the notion of Luai being a good leader in this thread (probably mostly due to who said it), but Brown has shown nothing to say he is anything close to a leader, certainly not on the field anyway. Lui has at the very least the ability to rev up his team, add a sense of enthusiasm during games, and not look bored (which is what Dylan has been accused of many times).

If I was starting a team tomorrow and had a choice between Brown and Luai, I would pick Brown. A lot of that is because his price tag seems to be significantly lower, plus he is younger with the ability to get much better. Luai has reached his peak and is now very expensive. I think it's a pretty easy option tbh.

But, I may be rather biased. I'm sure a Penruth supporter would read this and laugh in my face. I guess we should ask some neutrals what they think.

By the way, I accidentally misspelled Penrith above. I was going to change it, but I thought it was funny, so left it in.
Luai is a good player and IMO the biggest attribute he will bring to the Tigers is leadership. Tigers are DEEP with polynesians and Luai strongly embraces his polynesian heritage. On top of that, Luai appears to be a borderline narcissistic egomanic.PERFECT! The Tigers is full of players (majority polynesian) that have never tasted actual success. Luai will bring an ego led self assurance that will rub off on the players. Its exactly what we have needed, someone to to assure our guys that they CAN do it. Sometimes that's all you need.

Luais ego will not allow him to be Adam Blair 2.0.

And yet that Dragons side of the 60's has 4 immortals.
You are right though, most players look good in a gun side. Hard to say with certainty that they are overrated though, because we never really got to see them at their peak in worse teams.

It is why I consider Andrew Johns the best player I've ever seen. While he played with a stacked side at times (like 2001), he also held together a team of plodders at other times. In 2005 Newcastle couldn't win a game when he was injured. He came back and they won 8 of their last 11 games.
A Johns is the GOAT without doubt.

A Johns is the GOAT without doubt.

I sat at Parra Stadium one night in 2005 and watched his team of no-hopers beat us, after we had flogged them 50-0 several weeks earlier.
And when I say no-hopers, Todd Lowrie was playing five-eighth in that game, so that might give you some idea.

Johns meticulously kicked us to death in that game. No matter how well we did in our defensive set, he would drive the ball down into our corner and we would have to start again. It was so incredibly frustrating and yet amazing to see simultaneously. Even after all he had achieved in the game up until that point, that day cemented for me that he was the best.

I'm wondering (and hope I'm wrong) if Brown has in fact already reached his potential?

Yeah about round 6 in 2018.

Game must stand out in your memory.

I cant even remember it that's how miserable that year was.

Manly at Brookie will always the standout for me that shit heap of a season in 40 degree heat after warming up for an hour. What a disgrace that was.

Nah.
We’ve seen how good he can be. Reaching his potential means just doing it more often than not. I would hope that as he gots older and more experienced that this is what will happen.

Then again there have been hundreds of players that never reached their potential.

Nah as a Footballer and 5/8 Dylan Brown has it all over Luai.
Oki will put it this way, Brown isn’t as good as Luai. But as a defender he can more than hold his own, just hasn’t stood up when it counts. Only my opinion though.
As for playing outside Cleary, he could only wish
