He retired from the DOGS. Why should his pay count under the cap?
We got out of DAVEYS AND HODGSONS contract. We should count our own blessinga.

He "retired", yes. Which effectively means that his contract no longer counts at the Bulldogs nor does any payout. He now has had a "change of heart" and wants to play again. Basically, the Bulldogs have moved a player off their books and let him go to another club under the guise of a retirement and not had to carry any of his contract that still had two years to go. Shouldn't be allowed by the NRL but you can guarantee if another "lesser" club were to do this it wouldn't be allowed.

Davey and Hodgson were both medically retired - it still cost the club money but doesn't count against the cap - as neither player will be able to play in the NRL again unless they are medically cleared. When this happens the NRL have to consult doctors reports etc to determine if this is legitimate. The NRL weren't prepared to alLow Parramatta to medically retire Watmough as the injuries were thought to be preexisting. and not new ones like Hodgson's neck and Davey's concussion issues.

It's more about the Dogs not having to have him under their salary cap this year if he got a payout (which he surely did).

Still had two years remaining on his contract which means either the Broncos pay an agreed amount of that contract and the Bulldogs carry the remainder on their books for two years or the Broncos carry the whole amount. Either way its a dodgy brothers deal that PVL will "allow"

That’s true but it does mean there is now a precedent and any club can do what Gus and the Bulldogs did (assuming it happens).

The Dogs retired their captain at the end of 2022 but his salary still was on their 2023 cap.

I think they gave him a "job" after retiring which is why they had to pay it.

Davey and Hodgson will never play again.
TPJ is planning on suiting up less than a year after retiring. This is not the same thing.

The NRL will have an official probe just like they did when Josh Jackson retired and then made it count on cap.
They will no if there is a some sort of weird loophole that's tried to be exploited. They aren't complete idiots.

Of course they're not. I reckon Broncos and Roosters are still over $1m below the cap.
