If Moretti crushes it in trials it will be hard for BA to leave him out of the 17... As others have said though playing 5-10 minutes off the bench is a complete waste.

I don't mind the 80 minute hooker plan BUT I find it counterintuitive if your plan is to run 4x forwards but then not even use them properly. You would be better off having a second hooker or utility on the bench.

We need to win games, not waste game time for reserve graders to get up to speed ffs

When the season is shot you blood guys for future.
I think by the time we signed Davey our season was already done. At best we sneak into 8 but never a shot at title.
I'm one who believes sometimes it's good to have a rebuild year and let the kids get some experience for the long term plan.
Last year Morretti should of been given more minutes one seasons was shot. And less for our older experienced forwards who don't need to be burnt out.

Yeah, this.
If him getting 25 mins a game helps us win, then sure give it to him.
If he's not good enough to replce the players we have for that period of time, then nah.

It all comes down to the quality on the park. Of course our starters need to get a rest, but how long do they need to rest and is their replacement good enough to cover for them whilst they are off the field.

Season was cooked. Who cares if we finished 12th or 13th instead of 11th.

The problem with a player like Moretti, is his defense, or more precisely his enduring fitness in defense and still maintaining his surging aggression in attack.

But this will only come with consistent NRL exposure and at least a good 20-25 mins hit outs and full blast off the bench. Not 5-10min cameos that seem to be all the rage from our coach.

The kid needs real game time and at least 20 games of it to get that all important familiarity and experience and how to time himself and so forth at NRL level.
Agree with the first Parragraph. It’s in line with #parrafit. Our fitness isn’t great but can definitely see with players who join, there are other clubs where fitness standards are atrocious (side note I do worry with having too many project players that this stunts our own standards).

In terms of game time though, it depends on positional intentions. If he’s seen as a combo forward/lock like a Ofahengaue/Matterson then 20-25 minutes initially is fine and he can rise the ranks in time.
If though he’s seen as a “light” prop (which I think is his absolute best, but harder to achieve, position) like a Cotter, then 25 minutes ain’t going to cut it. He needs 50-60 minutes regularly in reserves, hold him off in NRL until we’re missing 2-3 props then he gets 40+ minutes at NRL and we pray we can conjure a win

This with the proviso most players are available and you’re not picking some bloke out of Ron Massey to field a team.
There’s zero point carrying a 4th forward if their primary purpose is injury cover.

Really you and pou defending Walters being the second best coach in the league???

I tell you what, if all the NRL coaches were off contract right now who do you two imbeciles think would get the likes of the Roasters, Storm, Broncos and Panthers reaching for the cheque book the most if all the coaches were just looking at going to the highest bidder and not worried about location or politics and so forth?

Walters who?

Idiots!
The only reason Brad was ranked so highly was for the Parra f**ktards to continue renewing his contract, so they continue leapfrogging us year in year out!!!

We finished one win out of the top 8.
Our season wasn't over until the second last week of the regular season. As long as there's a chance, players and coaches do not give up. At least, they're not supposed to.
Our season was over after the Warriors flogging, the players just gave up and pissed themselves like they always do under pressure. But this year is going to be different it just has too…………

What would of happened if we did finish 8th do you think keeping in mind Moses was out for season with 5 weeks to go.
We get slaughtered imo

Yes…but the rebuild should not be with Brad in charge, he’s had over a decade, stating the obvious, to most with common sense

Moses was injured well after we signed Davey so that’s a nonfactor.
Moretti’s game time compared to signing Davey is also a nonfactor because they play different positions.
Signing Davey was fine because it’s not like he was on significant overs or a categorically bad player.
Did he improve us? Well obviously not enough. But people talking it up like it’s the reason we didn’t make finals is some stupid shit.
Now…. If people said that about Ofahengaue… that’s a real conversation

I think I'll give Joe O the first half of the season before I judge him. He showed some glimpses.

Actually you must be thinking about Ofahengaue. We signed Davey the day we destroyed Newcastle in round 9, 1 game behind 8th. You reckon you would’ve been brave enough to write the season off that early if your balls were actually on the line?

I looked back at Ofahengaue as well. We signed him when we were only a loss behind 8th and had a decent F/A. So again is anyone going to write the season off at that point if their balls are on the line?

Anyway it seems odd to me that people are hung up on signing Davey when Ofahengaue is so clearly the bigger risk (also potentially bigger reward), and even more so people are far happier to give Ofahengaue the benefit of doubt. If it were Pou saying that, you’d probably be up his asshole about it

Moses was going to be back for week 1 of the finals I believe if we got there. I am sure I heard him say on radio he had the clearance ready to go basically but we fell short so it never happened.

We had the last round bye as well which gave him another 2 weeks post the Penrith game.
