Rumours and Stuff

Some pretty average coaches have won premierships - Hagan, Stuart, Maguire, Green - so luck is obviously a factor. How lucky has Robinson been? Bennett has won nothing in 14 years. Unlucky? Hasler has won two of them but nothing since 2011. Is he a good coach or not? Cleary’s record for the first 13 years of his career was atrocious. Suddenly he goes back to Penrith and he can coach. These inconsistent coaching results show there’s something more important than coaching that determines results.
Cleary did get perennial under-achievers, the Warriors, to a gf. Must mean he can coach.

Coaching won’t fix the problems at our club. Brian Smith and two premiership winners couldn’t do it. Financial investment and time will grow our club. By all means replace the coach. We will still be a good team without him. But just getting a new coach won’t make us great. That requires sustained spending.
I agree with you here to an extent. When you consider that in the last 10 years, only 1 club has lifted the trophy (Cronulla) that wasn’t a well funded club.
but it’s more than money. It’s a culture of accountability that I don’t believe exists at any level of our club

Hope this isn't true. Source above

A figure close to $850,000 is reportedly set to come off the club’s salary cap due to rules dictating players can’t join rival clubs for a contract worth less than their previous deal.
Assume we'd have to carry $850kpa for this year (if we get him this year) but his contract has been cancelled from next year so carry what we actually pay him from then on.

Do all af them have a 33% finals winning record like the bush coach though. Can you go through that list and give us their finals winning percentages pau pai ?

Xerri's contract is an interesting one. Do you really think there was no more demand for him than there was for Harper? Xerri still has a lot of potential. I think nearly every club would've been interested in him at minimum salary. Even a few at $200k+. I wouldn't be surprised if his top offer was $300k. As for Harper, how much could he be on? I'm sure it's more than minimum salary but not by much. My guess is $150k to $180k.
Weren't we interested in him? Would believe Dogs paid much more than $300k for him as he looked nowhere else and they were/are a basket case club.

As much as I have been justifiably critical of the club of late, the fact a player is willing take a $200k plus haircut per year play for us is not the type of thing we are used to seeing. It’s over $1m over 4 years difference to what he was/could have continued to earn at the Drags.

we’ve had a player refuse to play for us in order to save themselves $5000

clearly players maybe don’t dwell on the negatives as much we do - that or Mrs Arthur cooks a real mean steak.
She probably put drugs in it. (Which, when you think about it, would be a pretty good recruitment ploy.)

@Gronk

What’s your opinion on boods
Like most on here who have seen him play reggies, he is smart with the ball in hand, takes the line on, puts player in holes, has plenty in his bag of tricks.

Promising for someone who could be playing SG Ball this year.

I hear Riley Smith in Flegg is fit as f**k and offers plenty too.

I assume they will both team up in NSW Cup in 2025.

We also have the NFL guy, so it’s good to have some hookers coming through. Hopefully one will make it to be a 50+ NRL gamer.

Imo Boods could be great but he needs some size. He seems to be the 2nd or 3rd man in a lot. Rest of his game is superior to Hands and Lussick.
The size thing is the only issue that could stops him from making it. Which would be a shame

But we have funding.

We are one of the best funded clubs in the NRL. And have been for a long time (don't listen to opinions of excuse makers who use things they think people won't quantify, go look over the numbers).

I think you are right on accountability. Possibly infighting has been an issue in the past too.... but lack of infighting produces lack of accountability! Argh

something something resources....something something more than just money....something something structural problems....something something luck....something something nothing to do with coaching, recruitment, administration or management....

Seriously, if there are issues that are beyond the coach after 11 years, then he has to go.

Every player here has either been recruited, developed or reclaimed in the coaches tenure - no one has continuously been here since his arrival at the club.

After 11 years, he either assembled a squad with structural problems or he can't fix the pre-existing problems.

Either way, he's had his go and its time to move on.

I know, I know, "but who is there to get?" Yes, the new coach may not fix it either...but he also may, we don't know until we try.

With BA, we have tried and we do know. After 11 years he cant do it at our club. Its just that simple.

As it happens, the greatest coach of the modern era is available and seemingly interested...we would stupid not to be all in for him.

Let me know how long we’re going to keep making excuses for our club’s incompetence and not prioritising a premiership.
Well I'll be disappointed if our juniors fall off a cliff again. At the moment they are strong, like they were six years ago and I think that's good.

He obviously hasn't stop growing. Will he be any smaller than Mahoney once he's done that?
