Cleary did get perennial under-achievers, the Warriors, to a gf. Must mean he can coach.
What about a coach that gets perennial under-achievers Parramatta to a grand final? It's not like the Warriors had never made a grand final before. They made the made the grand final (and were minor premiers) four years before Cleary joined the club. They were in the preliminary final three years before he joined.

Do all af them have a 33% finals winning record like the bush coach though. Can you go through that list and give us their finals winning percentages pau pai ?
It is 12 games, which is a very small sample. Half of those 12 were against Melbourne (2017 to 2020) or Penrith (2021-22) ffs.

If you pick a random sample of 12 games from any coach's career it could be just as bad. Wayne Bennett's last 12 games are also only 33% win rate. Ricky Stuart's first 12 finals games resulted in nine wins. A phenomenal record. But 12 games is a small sample. Only a dopey footy fan would call it statistically significant.

Weren't we interested in him? Would believe Dogs paid much more than $300k for him as he looked nowhere else and they were/are a basket case club.
It's possible. Imagine if he'd never been suspended, how much he'd be on now. He was close to elite as an 18 year old. Obviously he was on the gear, but you still need ability to play NRL at that age, drugs or not. The question is how good could he be coming back. He's only 24 this year. There was every chance he could be worth $500k by the end of the season.

But we have funding.

We are one of the best funded clubs in the NRL. And have been for a long time (don't listen to opinions of excuse makers who use things they think people won't quantify, go look over the numbers).

Well we don't spend as much money as them. Why would our peak be as high as theirs? The Panthers spend so much outside the cap they brought back a coach with a win rate lower than 50%, who had missed the finals seven times in 12 years, just so they could re-sign his son. They spend a phenomenal amount of money on rugby league: https://www.penrithpanthers.com.au/news/2022/05/02/panthers-reveal-the-price-of-success/

This includes a $22M HQ facility: https://www.penrithpanthers.com.au/news/2016/03/30/panthers-open-$22-million-academy/

Meanwhile we don't even own our training ground. You're comparing apples with oranges. However in good news we upped our football related spend from $7.5M to $11.8M last year (compared to Penrith's $17M).

The thing is, this spending needs to be sustained, like Penrith has been able to do. Here's the Eels' football-related expenses in recent years:

2016: $9.1M
2017: $6.3M
2018: $8.3M
2019: $10.0M
2020: $5.9M
2021: $7.5M
2022: $11.8M

https://www.parraleagues.com.au/annual-report/

Updated 2023 spend is $12.5M

Let's be honest BA era has been unlucky in 2 finals but Parra have also botched 2 finals when up at HT under BA.

2017 in Melbourne and 2021 against Penrith unlucky completely shafted.

2017 against the cows and 2020 souths we were up at HT and should have won. BA's fault or not we should made 3 prelims in the BA era.

EELS NEED NEW MAJOR SPONSOR

The struggling Parramatta Eels are on the lookout for a new major sponsor for 2025.

Prominent Sydney developer Andrew Hrsto and his company Aland have been the Eels’ front-of-jersey sponsor for almost 10 years.

The company will remain as a partner in a reduced role on the back of the jersey.

We put it to Parramatta chief executive Jim Sarantinos that billionaire Hrsto was disappointed about the team’s poor start to the season after missing the finals last year.

“Andrew is passionate about the club and has provided great support over a long period of time,” Sarantinos said.

“Obviously we want everyone at the club to be happy. With members, fans and sponsors that’s not the case all the time.

“A couple of losses can amplify things.

“We get that.”

We’ve outperformed the Dogs for a decade. We should get that Laundry merkin to sponsor the club.

There’d be plenty here with experience polishing his dad. I’m sure they’d gladly scrape their knees for MA.

The 2017 in Melb we were completely shafted by the ref. Wasn't it Cam Smith's record beating game where he had played more games than anyone else? CS was Greenberg's love child and NRL made sure Storm were never going to be beaten in that game. Look at Storm's first try, pass thrown at least 5 metres forward, our 'try' disallowed when pass thrown level but disallowed and Storm continually escorting our players off ball on bombs but we're penalised when do same thing.
