Perhaps the easier question for others to answer is "Does any club have two halves on that much money?"
That is a better way to put it.

I think of all the clubs, none would have their cheaper half on as much as Pearce or Maloney. However the Cowboys probably spend as much on their two halves combined as the current price of Pearce + Maloney. That is, if Thurston is getting paid market value under the cap. I would add the 2017 Warriors too, except Foran's price would've come right down after his fragile 2016. He carries a fair bit of risk at the moment.

Maloney was the buy of the year last year, imagine if we had if nabbed him instead of Foran and our board and chairman weren't incompetent dicks???
Maloney is very good but he would be on about $800k, and requires a gun pack for him to be effective. Foran doesn't. He has other requirements.

Or if when he was with our club playing reserve grade our coaching staff back then had identified his talent.

Yep, Newcastle stays. There eventually needs to be a second Brisbane/another Queensland team, and a second team in New Zealand (Wellington?).

We could do with one less Sydney team, and it's kind of a shame the Sharks finally won something to legitimise themselves - otherwise they would have been the obvious choice to "disappear". Gosford is under utilised, but I fear time has passed and the chance is lost for a new team playing out of there. Adelaide and Perth (and anywhere else) aren't very cost effective options for initial expansion from 16 teams.

I get all this stuff about expanding the game, and rugby league has to fight off the insurgency of the evil soccer and AFL, etc; but, as a fan, I kind of miss the days when there were only ten or twelve teams in the competition and every team played every other team twice, and fierce rivalries were formed and maintained. It was a lot more tribal then. It sort of meant more.

Agreed. Can't think of any other teams that would be paying that much for both halves.

So, in theory the Roosters could have kept both halves but it would have meant that they had more than all clubs bar possibly two invested that area of the team. I can understand why they saw that as a risk and decided to let one of them go. I wonder whether in hindsight they wish they got rid of the other bloke and kept Maloney? Everything is easier in hindsight, I guess...

Oh my... I love Sterlo but he is the kiss of death when he recommends halfbacks. Not signing Foran would set the club back 5 years i think he said...Tom Humble he said...Tim Smith he said....Chris Sandow is the Aboriginal me he said.... (no, made that one up)
This article could be good news for Gutho.

Well, I agree with him this time. Only time will tell, and I'll be right behind Gutherson, but I do agree that Norman could do with a 'Hunt-style' partner.

That might be more to do with your age than the way the game has changed. I still see plenty of people excited about their team. Some of the more recent teams like the Cowboys and the Broncos arguably have the most enthusiastic fans going around.

You're probably right. And not all change is bad. But some is.

Foran was on 1.2m and the only requirements he needs these days are a copy of best bets and a new Tab account.
Foran was only on $1.2M after his TPAs were added. We've been through this before. It's the only reason we were happy to push him out. Plenty of players would be on massive overs if their TPAs were included under the cap. Maloney would probably be one of them.
