Tbh i think we play at our best when there is no expectation so i am not fussed about no one rating us to make the 8.

Who thought canberra would have been a edrick lee drop ball away from a grand final 12 months ago. In rugby league anything can happen.

Winning at least the same amount of games as we did last year which was 13 should be the minimum we should aim for imo.

In a vacuum Chipmunk is completely correct and Gary's opinion isn't unreasonable. However 0/10 from tipsters after finishing the very definition of a season from in hell in 2016 with enough wins to qualify for the Top 8 sans the points penalty is pretty f**king harsh don't you say?

People tipping us to miss the Top 8 ultimately isn't any skin off my or anyone's back but I did think it was an amusing little discussion point for a Monday morning.

I think all the teams who made the Top 8 last year have better teams on paper than we do. Some will slide out of the Top 8 though come seasons end. I think Roosters and Souths are going to be strong this season. The Warriors have no excuses for missing the Top 8 with the players they have. You'd have to think the Tigers will be better this year than they were last year and they only missed the Top 8 by one win.

I honestly can't say that we're any more of a chance of making the Top 8 than any of these 12 sides.

I always liked Zeb. Happy for him getting a gig until 35.

St Helens have confirmed the swap deal that will see Zeb Taia join the club, with Joe Greenwood going the other way to NRL outfit Gold Coast Titans.

32-year-old Taia returns to Super League on a three-year deal after one season with the Titans. He moved Down Under following three seasons with Catalans, where he earned a selection in the Super League Dream Team during his final year with the French club.

You will find Hindy111 tipped it.
Can show my ticket for raiders to finish top 4.

I can understand why we have been tipped to miss the 8.

Me too.
But I also see reasons why we can make the 8.
On paper we are just as good as most of the teams in the League. Which makes it a surprise that not one single tipster picked us to make the 8.

In any case I'm pretty happy they didn't.
I like it when we can surprise everyone.

Teams I give no chance - Knights
Very little chance - Saints

Every other team will go into the season with the fans expecting their side to make the top 8. 6 will fail to do so.

So what teams are certain to make it? I wouldn't say any. History would say - Storm-Brisbane-Cowboys but 1-2 injuries and they are behind the pack.
Possibly the tightest competition we will ever have and I feel a changing of the powerhouse clubs. Just as Manly dropped off I can imagine the 3 I mentioned along with the dogs and sharks falling back to the field.

Spine wise we are one of the worse come rnd 1. Thou potential to be a top 6 spine by mid season.

I think most people, including tipsters, focus on the attacking talent in a team and forget about defence.

Why would we go worse than last seasons 13 win team?

I get the unproven spine thing - but isn't Norman a known commodity? And DeGois French and Gutherson all played their spots last season to great effect.

Our biggest weakness was props, and I thought we addressed it?

We have a bottom 4 or 5 hooker, and a centre/fullback who has yet to demonstrate a worthwhile kicking game at 6. We also have no recognised goal kicker, a big problem (theoretically) for a side with recent form for getting close but losing the tight ones.

Gutho might do a great job, but I can definitely see why people rate 8 or so other sides above us. Especially given the hooker issue. De Gois is pure plod

I've also noticed people seem to have completely missed that we have a really good pack now. Quite a few write ups, forum and otherwise, have said we have a weak front row....I do think we're under the radar for most people, but I also think we have some glaring potential issues in a year that's looking like having 12 or 13 teams easily capable of making the 8
