Our club is run by idiots..

MA should not been allowed to leave unless there was a player swap..

This has opened the flood gates
It's just managers seeing an opportunity to renegotiate some youngsters we managed to lock up on unders. Change of coach gives them pretext, and they're not doing their job if they don't ask. But really, if they were doing their job, they would've had their clients hold out instead of letting them commit so long. Note the club doesn't have to let any merkin go who's currently contracted. They let Arthur go because how could they not. But Guymer isn't related to the sacked coach. It isn't 'personal reasons', it's a cynical ploy for more cash. It's good that we said no.

The article is from Buzz who just reported it. The article states, Charlie was happy with his meeting with Ryles and reports he has a development contract for next year and $140k contract for 2026. Then goes on with a statement from Field (his manager), eels need to convince him to stay...

Smells like manager f**ked up the contract negotiations and wants a better deal....so piss off...

I thought Clubs could approach/enquire, just couldn't make a formal offer.
They would absolutely be telling the manager what they think he's worth (or the manager will be ringing around asking) so that the player doesn't commit to his existing club too cheaply.

He can play centre and possibly fullback as well. More likely though is that Strange will move to the right and Sanders will play on the left with Fogarty transitioning to leadership off the field.
He's a left footer as well
Fogarty ain't going nowhere in a hurry...
Seb Kris is a very good left centre...so no..that ain't happening either
Kaeo Weekes, Albert Hopate and Chevy Stewart have got fullback covered ..So no cigar there either mate...
Sanders finger lickin good in nswrl

Panthers have this kid making his debut this week stuck behind Edwards but somehow still signs long term..

Must be shit though
Long term? His contract ends next year ffs, a year before Guymer's. He is older than Guymer but only just making his debut. He could be the next Daine Laurie!

Parra is dead.
Everyone is jumping ship.
NOBODY wants to play for Ryles.
Instead of sacking the board, and some dud players, you sack the coach that all the players loved, and you've won one game since.
No sympathy at all.
That’s right, all the players would “die for Brad”. Oh except on a football field where his tactics were like a stale fart and the players o ly show up every 5 games or so if we are lucky

But isn't the difference that if there was no PO for 2025 and just a normal contract, other clubs wouldn't have been allowed to make approaches to him until Nov 1 this year? Instead, the terms of the PO in this case allowed him to opt out of his option earlier in the year, after he had made his debut and looked decent, and so it became a free for all. A normal contract would have given the club the luxury of being able to upgrade/extend him based on his promising first grade performances without having to compete with other clubs...
The option doesn't replace the final year of the contract, it is an OPTIONAL contract extension. So in Talagi's case, he only wanted one year, not two, so he could go on the market. The option was just in case he got injured. It's only a factor if he takes it up. If he doesn't take the option (which is what happened) it's the same as if there was no option at all.

What we need to be doing is targeting juniors from other clubs and not journeymen or guys in late 20s or ones their former clubs don't want.
Polishing turds doesn't work
If you're trying to get guys very cheap it needs to be merkins nobody wants. Very promising juniors like Talagi can get half a million after a dozen NRL games. Sometimes you get lucky and can extend a youngster like Guymer, but if they're that good usually their managers will want them on the market. Look how much Guymer's cost himself signing until 2026. We would've offered Talagi something similar, but his manager wasn't as silly as Guymer's. Sanders will probably be getting close to $500k as well, along with the other junior stars they've chased. We had a freak crop come through and a few of them couldn't be held back. Others like Lynn, Brazel and Tuivati we've been able to bring through more slowly. But you don't want to overpay these guys or sign them too long because they might never be first graders.
