And I must not be that right because if it was up to me all education would be public and all funding to elite private schools would cease immediately. I know why we fund them because they are apparently easing the pressure off the system etc but I find Govt handouts to these schools abhorrent when I see some kids still attending schools in demountables and asbestos infested shit holes with no air conditioning.

Is your issue that the State and Federal Governments allow public schools to still have demountables and asbestos infested shit holes with no airconditioning?

Agree.

I'm not sure I'm convinced by that political reasoning, when the funding could be applied to the public system to build extra schools that accept anyone without exorbitant fees.... Government funding/subsidising of private schools is historical, rather than reasoned. And the howls of the powerful and rich should that historical funding be redistributed to where it is really needed seem too strong for weak politicians (of all stripes) to take a stand against. Shame really imo.

They only allow it, because they haven't been brave enough to redirect the funding from the subsidised privtae system to the public system, where it is needed and can do most benefit.

But we're talking about personal beliefs (or non-beliefs), that are not shared or celebrated in a communal manner like religious belief.

Apples and oranges. But each to their own.

Isn't the key difference that those that are shared or celebrated in a communal manner are 'organised religions' and the others are not?

Miriam-Websters give examples of religion used in a sentence as:
  1. Many people turn to religion for comfort in a time of crisis.
  2. There are many religions, such as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism.
  3. Hockey is a religion in Canada.
  4. Politics are a religion to him.
  5. Where I live, high school football is religion.
  6. Food is religion in this house.
Example 1 and 2 seem to refer to 'organised religion' whereas the other examples, not so much.

And yet the subsidisation by the federal government is reduced by the ability of the individual private school community to contribute.

By the way, demountables in public schools are not necessarily a funding related issue IMHO.

You've nailed it.

Most people who have been arguing with Pou have a very narrow view of what religion is. It doesn't align with the actual definition and application of the word which is much broader reaching.

Wrong. Religion isn't just a shared value system, it relies on faith in a higher power. Those other systems rely on adherence to man made rules

I don't wanna hijack the thread any more than it already has been but that's actually only one definition of religion. The most basic definition is essentially a set of beliefs that are important to a group of people.

Atheism is definitely becoming a religion to some. We all know the type...the ones who constantly go out of their way to mention their non belief and spend all day sharing Ricky Gervais quotes about the non existence of deities on Facebook....

Anyway, people can believe whatever makes them feel better about life and its general shitness tbh.

Do women with tatts scare you ?

Depends on the women. A cute little butterfly just above the undies can make Hindy111 very excited.

I was beat up by 3 women when I was 15. Taken to hospital for 3 days. Big tongan girls wanted my jacket. And I told them it wouldn't even fit them. I was rag dolled.

It costs less to hand out $8M per year to a private school (99% are primary + secondary), than maintain school grounds, upgrade facilities and pay wages for 50 - 100 staff. Do the math and then tell me its abhorrent.

It's the conservative way of thinking and you are part of their cheer squad - yet you object ?

Cut subsidies and make parents pay $65k a year (up from $35-45k) and they all flock back to the public system. The whole private health debate / private schools have interchangeable arguments.
