With Matto being told he is staying our pack is looking ok for next year with everyone back from injury..

Barlow
Hands
Joffa
Kelma
Carty (would like Guymer to get a go with a off-season)
Hopgood

Gutho?
Matto
Lane
Guymer

Leo Thompson would be a good get from the Knights..

Not a fan of Kelma at all, tbh.

And Cartwright has regressed.

Matto has routinely been one of our better performers - he starts over Cartwright, or Tuilagi, imo.

Hopefully the usual suspects can refrain from throwing rocks at TCT for this post.

Anyway, from the latest pod, they reckon that the bunnies 7 Dean Hawkins is coming.

They also talk about the possibility of a bulldogs utility who could play 14 if needed. Who could that be ? Gus has eleventy utilities.

Thats not evidence. That’s data. You haven’t explained why we’ve won 10 finals matches in 22 years. I can tell you that it’s not because of some inherent trait that is being the Parramatta Eels.

Imagine if Penrith sat around after their 2020 grand final loss and said we’ve won 7 finals matches since our last premiership in 2003. A club like ours just doesn’t win finals matches let alone premierships anymore. With retrospect you would agree that it would have been a laughable mindset to take after what they ended up achieving. Your interpretation of the data is shallow at best. You’re saying correlation doesn’t equal causation but that’s what you’re literally doing.

My personal opinion to explain the data is that the club has been mismanaged by the different groups of people in charge for a long time and we have not taken advantage of the resources to win a premiership. 2010-2016 especially were wasted years which is going to skew the data significantly towards not winning finals matches. It’s mismanagement and not some inherent trait like you’re suggesting. Here’s hoping the Ryles regime does a better job.
Management is itself a resource, and when it stems from the club’s ‘ownership’ structure it is indeed inherent.

Just like the Panthers, we made a huge change. But where they went out and got a huge funding injection from James Packer, we changed our constitution to increase stability on our boards. The result is that in the previous 22 years (an arbitrary number based on the 11 that people think is so relevant), we won 6 finals matches in the first 18 years and 4 in the most recent 6 years since the change in management structure. 2024 is the outlier in this recent period of strength. Years before 2018 don’t belong to the current board. Dumping it on the coach is just scapegoating. He is only the coach, but his record (including finals) since 2019 proves his quality. His record pre-2019 was due to being at a weak club.
